W.A. Users PLEASE HELP!... Can you access Belldirect.com.au?

Post by Bruce Evans » Sat Jul 05, 2008 3:15 pm

I live in Perth WA, and immediately after Exetel connected me to their new WA server 2 weeks ago I can't access http://www.belldirect.com.au at all.
I used to be connected to Exetel's NSW server and had no problem accessing this site immediately before being moved to the WA server.
None of my settings or anything was changed when the problem started, although I've tried changing settings since in an effort to correct the problem, such as reducing MTU etc. but nothing helps.
I have no problem accessing any other sites that I've tried.
I've contacted Exetel about it who investigated but said they have no problem with their network.
I've contacted Belldirect who can't seem to help, although they are at least continuing to try.
Could someone else who is connected through the WA server (58.96.x.x) please try to access this site so I will know if the problem is with my router setup or the network somewhere?
Thanks.

Hello,

I can access the site from Sydney.

Would suggest logging into your ADSL user facilities and try changing your IP address to see if it makes any difference.
I have seen cases where companies say that there is no problems with your IP address but you find later that changing the IP address resolves the problem.

Thank You

Thanks for your reply but Exetel already changed my IP address in attempt to correct the problem. I assume you're not on the WA server. I hope someone on the WA server will please see if they can access this site?
Thanks.

Hello,

Are you able to reach the website if you enter 202.164.26.80 into your address bar in Internet explorer?
As a temporary work around you could use a open proxy server to get that website.

Thank You

Hello,
No, it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage..." just the same.
It doesn't work in other browsers either.
A tracert to the site is always timed out and Exetel said "It may be that there is a block in place for 58.96.0.0 IP addresses on the remote site." I passed this on to Belldirect, but apparently not.
How do I use an "open proxy server?"
Thanks again.

Hello,

A open proxy can be found using a search engine such as http://www.google.com. I did spend a good while looking and could not come up with a good address to recommend.
Using a proxy server is a good troubleshooting step as you use the IP address of the proxy server when connecting to websites so it gets around a IP blocking problem.

You would use the information below to configure your proxy settings.

When you are in Internet explorer you would select tools followed by Internet options.
Once you are in Internet options you would select connections followed by LAN settings and enter the address into where it lets you put an address and a port.

The server address that I recommend is not working tonight which is sydney.cache.telstra.net on port 3128.

Thank You

The IP address range 58.96.*.* is not completely blocked as my IP address starts off with 58.96.*.* and am able to access the site.
When looking at the trace route for this website it seems to go through an excessive amount of routers to reach the destination.

Hi,

I thought, because of what Exetel told me, that the first 2 numbers of my IP address (58.96.) was the WA server part of the address as these numbers changed when I was moved from the NSW server, but only the last 2 numbers changed when I was given a new IP address later to try to solve the problem. I guess that's not the case if your IP address starts with the same numbers and you're in Sydney. Does that mean that none of the numbers represents the server address?

I'm currently trying to find an open proxy server as you suggested.
A couple of proxy servers I found through the google search engine don't work at all. I'll keep trying.

Thanks.

Hello,

The reason why I have a 58.96.*.* address is because staff are given an IP in that range.
Sydney EXETEL customers would get a 220.233.*.* IP address usually.

I've checked WA and SA so far and have found that those states start with 58.96.*.* address range.

Thank You

Hi Richard,

Yes, I used to have a 220.233.x.x address before being moved to the WA server; it worked fine.
I have tried changing my IP address yet again, so the last 2 sets of numbers have both been changed 3 times now but I still have the same problem.

I couldn't find an open proxy server that works at all. The sydney.cache.telstra.net proxy still doesn't work today either.
So I installed a 3 day trial version of a program called "Hide My IP 2008" which works by using a proxy server.
Low and behold, I can actually access belldirect.com.au when this program is enabled!
So your advice about trying a proxy server was right on the money! Speaking of which, it will, of course, cost money to continue using the program, so I would still like to sort out the problem.
But how? What does all this mean? Are my router settings definitely correct? Is Belldirect definitely blocking me, whether they know it or not? What can I do next?

Hi,
Sorry to seem so ignorant, but what exactly do you mean by "please pm me your telephone number"
Thanks.
