My speed is not the same as what my plan specifies...

Sorry guys
Stupid question
On my plan it states that my Service Line Speed is 18000/900
Does this mean my current download speed should be 18000( instead of the current approx 7000?)
If not, why not?

Your current line speed is ADSL2+, which means it can reach up to 18000/900, but only 1500/256 is guaranteed.

The 18000 is the speed at which your line MAY sync. There are many reasons why your speed may be less than that. The only requirement for any provider for ADSL2 is that it is at least 1500.

There are a number of checks you can do to try and isolate where any degradation is occurring. However it may be that the absolute best your line (and all conditions from exchange to your house) can acheive is 7000 kbps.

Have a look here to see what your likely speed could be and here to see if you can do anything to improve things.

As you've been advised the maximum speed is seldom obtained and the 'average' is seldom more than 10 mbps down.
