Queensland and NSW Flood Information

Post by shoner » Thu Jan 31, 2013 3:05 pm

The following is the latest update on efforts to restore telecommunications services in Central and Northern Queensland following severe weather and flooding that has heavily impacted that region.

Our wholesale supplier is using their fibre transmission network to provide mobile and fixed services through most of Central and North Queensland. Fixed broadband as well as Optus 3G and 2G mobile services are currently available in the major population centers of Cairns, Townsville, Rock Hampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Gympie.

However due to major power failures there are disruptions to mobile coverage across Central and South East QLD regions to varying degrees including Mt Isa, Longreach, Emerald, Dalby, Tin Can Bay, and Rainbow Beach.

Telstra has repaired most services that were affected including a cable-cut, however some services are being affected by localized power outages caused by storms. All efforts are being made by Telstra to provide backup power to these sites.

We continue to monitor the situation closely. Should customers need to contact emergency services in the event of an mobile service disruption, we encourage customers to call 000 from their mobile to be switched to the nearest available mobile network

Until all services are restored, customers are reminded that the emergency triple zero service may still be impacted or encountering congestion. If customers are unable to reach triple zero, local emergency services such as police, fire and ambulance stations will be in operation and should be contacted directly where possible. Temporary numbers established by emergency services are provided below.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide the community with updates through our social media channels Exetel Forum (https://forum.exetel.com.au), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ExetelPtyLtd?ref=hl), and Twitter (https://twitter.com/ExetelExec), and via Exetel Outage Board in addition to regular updates on the forum.
