Update

Testing has identified the fibre break to be at the corner of Yuron Street and Liverpool Street in Sydney City.

A Field Technician has attended the site and found the fibre break has been caused by civil sewer works in the area.

Initial assessment shows directional drilling has impacted a Telstra duct 3 metres underground, damaging AAPT 72 core cable.

AAPT Fibre Repair crews are being mobilised to assess repairs and will work in conjunction with Telstra Technicians who are also at site.

Repair work will need to be coordinated and delays may be experienced due to the proximity to traffic and civil works.

No ETR is available for commencement of fibre repair work at this time.

Update

Our suppliers fibre crews are on site and have confirmed the damage is extensive.

Due to the nature of the fibre cut there may be further work required at each junction along the fibre section due to the drill pulling on the fibres.

Restoration actions required are now being assessed and is being coordinated with extended carrier.

The work is expected to take an extended period of time and the overall repair required and estimates to begin work are currently unavailable.

Update

Five fibre cables have been identified as being damaged by the drilling. Following the repair of these fibres, there are no known rerouting/workaround options available for the remaining impacted services. Restoration will only occur once the main fibres are completely repaired.

The overall fibre restoration work is still being assessed as the damage is greater than first anticipated. Investigations overnight have identified further issues at various junctions and repair work at each junction is being assessed. Large sections of mud underground are hampering restoration activities.

A plan to begin the main repair work is being formulated. Due to the complexity of the various fault locations this is expected to take an extended period of time. As such no ETR is available and customers need to prepare for extended outages if their services have not restored yet.

Update

Our suppliers fibre technicians have continued resplicing work overnight.

Due to the difficulty and confined work area and the joint where all fibre cables converge has resulted in slower splicing progress.

Customers should see services progressively restore as the resplicing work continues.

No ETR available at this time.

Update

Fibre splicing is ongoing with Technicians continuing to work through the fibre cables as a priority.

Difficulties have been encountered as the multiple fibres that converge into the joint being worked are dependent on other fibre cables being spliced.

Customers should see services progressively restore as the resplicing work continues.

No ETR is available at this time.

Update

Additional Fibre technicians have been mobilised and are in attendance to assist with the complex fibre splicing work.

Fibre splicing work is ongoing with the low rate of tubes being spliced due to the confined work area for technicians and the complexity of splicing required for the fibre cables that converge into the same joint.

Customers should see services progressively restore as the resplicing work continues.

The issue has been escalated with Management and is being treated with the highest priority. No ETR is available at this time.
