So if i was to move back to a BYO plan (where i had fast path ADSL) and for some reason my connection is interleaved, i can request it to be changed to fast path?

No, there is no ability to request that at the moment.

I am meeting with the carrier on Friday to see if it will be possible in future.

The outcome of the meeting is that Optus have undertaken to investigate how it can be done within their systems and have a result in two weeks.

I don't want to set any false expectation here - the investigation may well end in a result of 'too hard to do' (thought, as I pointed out, 'too hard' is not 'impossible').
