HSPA VoIP

Post by compositor » Sun Nov 13, 2011 6:36 pm

I am interested in the basic HSPA service(s) in that I have Symbian Belle and my current provider does not provide @ type usernames, only traditional numbers.

I'd like to know firstly, does Exetel support such usernames, and is it simply an SMS type configuration or must I become knowledgeable.

Also, what are the requirements in relation to the deposit, ie can it be refunded after a time or does it remain so long as you don't have ADSL.

not 100% sure exactly what you're asking, the VoIP service comes with a regular 10 digit landline number and you can forward SIP calls directly (if that's what you meant by the @ username????)

Hi jokiin,

In the Nokia handset, it will only accept a username that contains a @ eg. an email type address, or does the Exetel MVoIP application do all this for you.

Thank you

I haven't used the Nokia app for quite some time but I know there is no need for an @ in the user name, my old Nokia had a built in SIP client and never needed it either though

I am using Symbian Belle on a Nokia 700, and it won't allow me to save settings without an @ in the username.

I have installed SIP/VOIP 3.1 in the handset and with my current provider I tried to download settings but they don't support this type of configuration, so might Exetel support this particular method, since they (exetel) were the only provider I could find that actually have any kind of program settings application at all.

Thanks

I don't know about Symbian Belle, but some of my Linux softphones have address book entries for PSTN numbers stored exactly the same as Exetel DIDs, that is as sip:98765432@58.96.1.2 and they dial out successfully even though they aren't Exetel SIP addresses. I assume that the softphone simply dials the number via the Exetel server at 58.96.1.2.

Interesting discussion there.

So it is possible then, if you sign up to Exetel MVoIP, that you will be given instructions, or otherwise some automated method of entering the required data, that is to setup credentials in order for the service to operate; would I be correct or are you left to your own devices.

The instructions are available in the Exetel members facility where the MoIP service is ordered from:
From the Order Services left sidebar menu, MoIP.

https://www.exetel.com.au/members/moip_android.php - Android

I think going by the earlier posts that compositor is not an Exetel member at this time so wouldn't be able to view those links, there is a demo version here though https://www.exetel.com.au/site_demo/mem ... iation.php
