Netcomm NF18ACV with Synology NAS

Post by jpurssey » Tue Jul 10, 2018 6:07 pm

I note that the Exetel ZTE modem had features for use with NAS disabled.

Is there any disabling on the Exetel Netcomm NF18ACV?

I am using a Synology DS214SE (and hoping to upgrade to a DS218+) which connects to modems via ethernet and for which some software it runs requires port forwarding. From the user guide it appears that limited port forwarding is possible, but it may be that the Exetel version does not have all the features of the commercial unit, in which case it may be worth spending the $140 on an unlimited unit or purchasing another gateway that is fully compatible.

Is there any information on the compatibility of the Exetel Netcomm modem/gateway with Synology NAS products?

Hi,

From the model number (DS214SE) we could see that you are using a Synology DiskStation.

Please note that the Netcomm 18ACV modem supports basic port forwarding.

You can refer the following for basic Port forwarding in Netcomm 18ACV modem.

https://support.netcommwireless.com/sit ... -Guide.pdf

In the meantime we will check with the modem manufacture (Netcomm) whether there is any compatibility issues for Synology devices since Synology uses some customized features such as SHR - Synology Hybrid RAID.

Exetel is following up this case via the reference number : 12950230

Thank-you.

No Netcomm modems are listed in the long list of Synology Diskstation compatible modems, though not all modems are tested.

Can you state that the Exetel supplied NF18ACV does not have any of the functions listed in the general user guide and specifications disabled?

As we raised a query with the modem manufacturer - Netcomm they confirmed there is no known issue with Synology DiskStation - DS214SE.

However if this should happen through Port Forwarding they advised to refer the document at: https://support.netcommwireless.com/sit ... -Guide.pdf

And with regards to this query, if you have any further concerns they advised to you to contact them directly over the phone by quoting the Netcomm Reference No: 2508230

And you may get in touch with Netcomm - NSW over the phone via 02 9424 2059

Hi,
Although I can access some of the applications on my DS214se NAS there are some that I can't. These are shown as failures in the router configuration screenshot below.

I think this is because there is a conflict between some reserved ports on the NF18ACV modem/router and the ports that the Synology NAS wants to use for those apps. I think it may be possible to change or redirect the ports either on the modem or on the NAS, but the user guides do not explain this very well.

I will contact Netcomm, but I am recording the problem here.

Thank you for sharing the details here. We will also post here, with any information gathered from the modem manufacturer further. It is recommended to contact Netcomm support within business hours only.

I have posted a support request to Netcomm. The support phone just directed me to do this rather than talk with a person.

I have attached the NAT/Virtual Servers setup I have made which does not seem to work. This is a laborious process as each entry has to be entered individually, and a mistake means starting that entry again from scratch.
I have even tried turning off the ALG as was successful for another member but to no avail.

The Synology NAS is able itself to manage the Router configuration for a long list of modem/routers (it did for my ADSL TP-link), but not for the NF18ACV.

A Synology and Exetel compatible router would make life much simpler, but I don't know if there is one.
