Settings for D-link DSL-2730B Version T1

Hi all,

I bought this modem a few days ago and have set it up successfully. However, I am getting a slower download speed and some really odd stats in terms of SNR margin and attenuation (as per below):

These are the results I get regarding my exchange from adsl2exchanges.com.au:

Line of Sight:260 m
Estimated Cable:429 m
Estimated Attenuation:6
Estimated Maximum Speed:24000

Is there a guide available where I can follow through to setup the modem properly? I have tried connecting just the modem to the phone jack and it did not make a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

One of these odd things came up here a while ago but I can't remember where. I do remember that it worked when the quick set up was followed. You start with the date, and go from selection to selection until a summary page comes up. The internet connection is PPPoE LLC/SNAP VPI=8 VCI=35. I think it's the default PPPoE setting. If that doesn't work, post again.

Hi, thanks for your help. I tried using setting up using the wizard but the same problem is still happening. Anything else I can check? Thanks again.

Unless you are into hair-tearing, never use a software wizard that runs on Windows to configure a modem, nor connect with a USB cable. Do the config in the web browser at address http://192.168.1.1, attached by ethernet cable. The login name and password are both admin. You can remove the cable later if wireless is more useful.

I got hold of the manual, and it looks pretty straightforward this way. From the D-Link website:

1. HOW DO I CONFIGURE MY DSL-2730B ROUTER WITHOUT THE CD, OR CHECK MY
WIRELESS NETWORK NAME (SSID) AND WIRELESS ENCRYPTION KEY?
- Connect your PC to the router using an Ethernet cable.
- Open a web browser and enter the address http://192.168.1.1
- The default username is admin. The default password is admin.
- If you have changed the password and can not remember it, you will need to reset the router to
set the password back to admin.

Hi, sorry if I was not descriptive enough. http://192.168.1.1/ is exactly what I did to setup via the wizard. I am still getting similar stats. Maybe it is time to give support a call. Thanks.

You can enable remote access and give the Guys a call on 0280301000...

they should be able to see what the issue is...
