Netgear D7800 X4S on FTTN NBN

Post by Byron81 » Sat Dec 03, 2016 4:59 pm

Hi There,

Have applied to have my existing exetel ADSL2 exetel connection changed over to FTTN NBN that has just been activated in our area (NSW)

Just wonderi g if anyone is using a Netgear D7800 X4S modem router with an Exetel FTTN connection? Understand you need the latest firmware from netgear (done that)

Just looking for some guidance on setting and any optimised settings for using this modem/router with exetel FTTN connections?

Regards,

Byron.

Hi Byron,

Please note that FTTN/B VDSL connection will require a modem router that is compliant with the NBN VDSL2 equipment specifications. Modem routers purchased from Exetel are compliant.
It is not enough for a modem to just have VDSL2 support, it must support all of the required NBN features and have them switched on.
This is why we advise purchasing Exetel recommended VDSL2 modem routers as these have been certified to work and are registered with NBN. This means Exetel can ensure your service works as expected and provide full support.
To Log a fault ticket, please click click here or alternatively call Exetel VOIP numbers (02) 8030 1000 or 1300 788 141 (log faults 24x7)

Thanks for the reply,

Is it possible to get a list of required features/protocold that need to be enabled for your VDSL2 connections? That way I can check the compatibility of this modem.

Hi Byron,

The compatibility requirement for Exetel FTTN/B VDSL connections are that the modem needs to be NBN Registered, which can only be ensured for modems purchased through Exetel. As such, we are sadly unable to confirm or guarantee the compatibility of non- Exetel provided modems for these services.

Just to amplifly rehanj's post on the NBN's position, you may be interested in an article at http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/fttn_regis ... dem_router. As stated, there is a risk.

The decision to not publish the information you asked for is by the NBN. There has been some controversy. See eg https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/ ... cision.pdf
