a.b.c.d.static.exetel.com.au Reverse DNS Issue

Post by johnsid » Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:24 pm

Does anyone know what needs to be done to fix up reverse DNS ? Is it a seting at Exetel that needs to be set or in your own DNS server.

Currently an exetel customer running a mail server which was recently blacklisted due to a rogue machine spamming out.

DNS records are held with www.zoneedit.com, reverse dns cname record has been created using d.c.b.a.in-addr.arpa.domain.com.au

When trying to remove the record from some of the blacklist sites, they state

"The IP address you have specified does not comply with best practices. Currently, the reverse DNS for this IP address is: d.c.b.a.static.exetel.com.au. For more information, please review the above "List Specifications" section, or this best practice documentation"

Reverse dns doesn't seem to be reporting my reverse dns entry set in Zoneedit.

Anyone else having/had this problem ?

Your reverse DNS isn't set in zoneedit.com. It's set by Exetel and costs $20 a year for a custom one if you don't like the one you have. See the members area for more info or email Exetel Hosting & Services [hosting@exetel.com.au].
