8192/384 Correct Modulation Types

Anumber of "speed" complaints have been related to incorrect modulation type. The following suggestion for ADSL1 8192/384 services resolve most speed complaint:

- For high speed ADSL1 customer on "8M" profile, you should use g.dmt as your correct modulation type

what do we set our MTU at and window frame rate at?
Cause I have already had this setting going since i got my internet.

Hi i been getting lot slow speed i was using Mozilla download for files it stuck at 50kb's that for any file i download at, so had old program i found on my cd it called TCP Optimizer it free program and east to use.
I when on speedtest.net did test to Sydney to Newcastle got 2100kbps and then i did a TCP Optimizer reran the test got 6534kbps on 8mb's speed that was good then when to ozspeedtest.com
Mirror: Exetel
Data: 9 MB
Test Time: 12.03 secs

Your line speed is 6.28 Mbps (6283 kbps).
Your download speed is 785 KB/s (0.77 MB/s)
it made work 10x better + my online games been running better too.
try it out.

g.dmt mode has been already used
however the speed is very slow

Is the Light bulb shaped threads a sticky?

Yes. Perhaps this thread was stuck to show how modulation and MTU optimisation can improve speeds. Not sure.

Yes I will keep my posts about speed issue's within that thread. It is annoying that there is no where on the forums showing what each icon/symbol means.

hi, i have recently upgraded my adsl from 512/128 to 8192kbps Down/384..
the speed hasn't really changed. i have already tried a few things on the forum including changing the modulation with no luck.
can anyone help me out please?

Well, that test showed 1.13Mbps, which is already above 512kbps, so the change appears to have gone through. I would suggest you avoid ozspeedtest.com as it can very easily give a low speed reading. Try speedtest.net instead (which will also test your upload speeds), or even better download a file from mirror.exetel.com.au to test download speeds, perhaps even combine that file download with other, simultaneous, downloads from each of microsoft.com and apple.com just to see what sort of maximum downloads speeds you can obtain in aggregate. It is best to test these speeds in afternoon / early evening times otherwise network wide P2P traffic may impair the results.

i'm a bit confused cause i'm kinda new to this.. :oops:
i meant on the user facilities :wink:
so does that mean that it has been upgraded then? cause i was on 512down and i have upgarded to 8192down which is a dramatic increase and it feels the same..
is it supposed to be like that?

No. Make sure you have power cycled your modem, then try the alternate speed tests I outlined in the post above (best to wait until tomorrow afternoon though as the speeds may have improved by then and you will also avoid any issues of congestion that can occur during off-peak speeds). If you are still getting slow-ish speeds tomorrow either post the results, and/or email residentialsupport@exetel.com.au to lodge a slow speed fault
