See! I told you it was fixed!

:)

sites that would either time out or display only half a rendered page or some parts of it (eg youtube) now works and loads fast.

the ABC's Iview meter would fluctuat between 0 and 1900kb/s and everything in between in a 30 second perios...now works nice and steady.

All sites I frequent seem to be up and working again.

Thanks for the fix...whatever it was.

i have an all time slow

[`[*Test Results from <a href="http://www.ozspeedtest.com">Oz Broadband Speed Test</a>*]`]
[(----------------------------------
Test run on [*01/07/2009*] @ [*12:42 AM*])]

[(Mirror: [*Exetel*]
Data: [*9 MB*]
Test Time: [*249.91 secs*])]

[(Your line speed is [*302 kbps*] (0.3 Mbps).
Your download speed is [*38 KB/s*] (0.04 MB/s). )]
-------------------------------

i am trying to watch *spooks* and of course it is impossible.
i usually stay cool about this glacial speed post 12 mn but really .............there has to be more than me that is awake and wanting to watch soemthing that i missed.
even getting to web pages is slow

i truly dont understand why the fact that a reasonable number of people must be wishing to use the internet for browsing after midnight, cant be taken into account
if downloads were put back to 1 am..........is that some huge imposition on the dowloaders ??
i just dont understand it at all. are some of them asleep anyway ???

:(

Every user, I believe, can change their Off-Peak period start time from midnight to 1am or 2am now.

Those that need to download the Internet.... well, really they shouldn't hit the net until at least 3am -- that would be much nicer!

That timing out hop may simply be an internal Exetel router configure to not respond to TRACERT and PING packets. Try PING -t http://www.google.com.au (Ctrl+Break will show cumulative statistics and Ctrl+C will stop the pings)

I'm not on ADSL2 - 8mbit ADSL1. Although I was told this is the place to post

I run VoIP from my work connection... to an asterisk machine at my home (seperate DSL line). About an hour ago it dropped out. No configurations have changed, rebooted all the equipment at both ends. I have had the issue before - and in all cases its been the RTA1046VW at home.

Strange that other port forwards from the RTA1046VW continue to work...

Interesting ports on 216.75.233.220.static.exetel.com.au (220.233.75.216):
PORT STATE SERVICE
5060/udp open|filtered sip
6667/tcp open irc

The IP for my work is 220.233.87.58

Last night at about 1.30am AEST... I noticed that many websites reported "HTTP Error 502" with a server signature for Apache 2 on a debian machine... funny, I didn't think http://www.google.com.au used debian/apache

William - if you want to call me, I'm agent N220 - you have my details.

*EDIT*
tcpdump shows three packets continually scrolling... I do believe I'm missing the "200 OK" packet. I'm pretty sure "asterisk -r" should show me login failures - it doesn't show me anything at all unless I run "sip set debug"

Hello

Please note that if you cant access any websites is it possible to do a trace route to the particular website and copy the results and sent them to residentialsupport@exetel.com.au and we could investigate further on the issues.

e.g in the "Command Prompt" just type.. "tracert <Website>"

or try accessing through the IP address if you happen to know it just to check whether it is a DNS issue.

Hi William, I am just get connected to ADSL2 (in the Revesby exchange Postcode 2213), and I am having this selective website connection issue (eg google.com). I have tried lowered my MTU from 1500 to 1300 and I can access google, but the execel.com.au failed to connect. If this is related to the cicso, would you please look into this for me? Thanks

I am just replying my own post, as it turned out, even though I was experiencing similar issue (ie cannot access some web site), it was a total different issue. As I mentioned before, I was just connected to ADSL2, and the IP address that exetel assigned to me initially is ALREADY been assigned to someone else. So there are 2 people with the same IP address, hence the conflict in network packet destination/routing. This founding is the result of help from kind people in Exetel User Help Forum Live Support (I tried to get help from exetel support and all they told me was "There is NO issue" and suggested it was my modem that was not configured/working properly). I am glad that there are helpful people out there in the Help Forum Live Support that is willing to help. Thanks guys.

New forum member, not sure if I'm posting in the right place...
Looks like I have recently been upgraded from ADSL1 to ADSL2. For the last few days, I have been unable to connect to many internet sites. For example, I can browse to search.yahoo.com but not google.com - tracerts below. The ADSL1 service has been working for months prior, and AFAIK nothing has changed in my hardware or software configuration.
The modem is a Billion 7300GA.
So far, I have:
- changed IP address and powered off the modem twice
- performed an isolation test
- disabled IPv6
- explicitly set Exetel DNS addresses in the IP config
- ipconfig /flushdns
- set modem MTU to 1300 and restarted
- raised a ticket with residential support (which is at the "can you send ping results" stage)

None of these have improved the situation so far.
My IP address is in the 58.96.x.x range - is that correct for ADSL2(+)?
Any suggestions for resolving this would be most appreciated.

These are very comprehensive tests. I can't think of what might be wrong with your connection (Usually I would attribute such behaviour to IPv6 or MTU issues).

58.96.x.x is a normal range for ADSL2+ services, but I'm unsure why your tracerts are going direct to 220.233.x.x Exetel hops. I would have expected to see a few 58.96.x.x hops in there. Best to leave it with residential support though. If you get no progress then post the ticket number to this thread and I can try to bring it to an Exetel engineer's attention.

Update: Residential support made some (unspecified) changes today, and I can now browse to those sites that were timing out before.
Welcome back, google! The only noticeable change to the service is a new IP address in the 115.70.x.x range.
I'll ask what was changed, it might be of interest to other members.
Thanks to Exetel residential support for their efforts.
