adsl2 selective website connection issues

Hi,

Anyone else having issues accessing certain websites? I am on an exetel optus adsl2 connection with phone.
Example:
I can access google, all exetel sites, also:
http://ozspeedtest.com.au/
http://www.formula1.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
If I go to www.mini.com and click on UK or US, I can access all these sites.

At the time I started writing this email, I could not access the following websites:
http://www.autosport.com/f1/
http://www.speedtest.net/
I know there is more that my wife was attempting to access and is becoming increasingly frustrated with this service.
We are using Firefox 3.

I then attempted to locate more websites that I couldn't access.
I think a photo at www.imageshack.us was having trouble loading.
I dont know if its coincidental or not, but it seems like it may have something to do with the time.
Since about 20 mins past midnight these sites have started working very fast again. It seems like when Exetels service gets to high load, our connection becomes hopeless for certain destinations on the internet, or maybe its an internet router struggling with load. I don't have any other explanation, but it is very frustrating. Is it possible that Exetel's traffic filtering for traffic such as P2P is affecting certain internet traffic?

Initially when I was unable to access some sites, I had a download speed of 1MB per second to an exetel mirror, and to external mirrors such as the iinet, tpg and bigpond mirrors.
Yet, I was unable to access speedtest.net and autosport websites.
Has anyone else had similar strange experiences?

Cheers
Jonesy

Hi Jonesy,

I've been having similar problems for the past 2-3 days! So annoying. Certain web sites don't open up, or open up half-way. I thought it might be my modem (ADSL2+), but power-recycling and all that did not make any difference. It's very erratic and at times there is no problem, and then it all starts again.

I too have been having issues accessing certain websites. They only partially load requiring a restart or they don't load at all. This seems to be an issue mainly with overseas sites as well, with Australian sites loading as normal.

I am experiencing the same since Saturday 27 Jun 2009.

I can access sites like google.com.au but when I click certain links in Google News, they either don't load or just hangs there. Surprisingly, this morning there's a news that is linked to Ninemsn.com.au and the page just would not load and this is an Australian site!

I love listening to internet radio and is unable to access live365.com at all!

In addition, some web pages load ok but with an error message window "Your connection was reset...blah blah blah". Never happened before until these few days.

Is Exetel taking part in the Rudd government's internet filtering scheme? Have we been targeted and sites blocked?

:x Not happy!

Hi,

I'm having the same issues, noticed them quite randomly over the weekend - just now it wouldn't even load google.com! after 10 mins it works fine?

Has anyone actually logged a fault ticket for this?

Hope its fixed soon!

I am having the exact same issues and cannot load the pages mentioned in this thread. I also cannot sign into Windows Live Messenger and I frequently get disconnected when on Xbox Live.

From my end it seems obvious something is broken. Please fix it Exetel!

I have created a support case for the same issues and the tech responded with -
Can you please change the MTU size to 1400 and if that does not work drop it down again to 1300. You would need to do this via the modem settings.
I hope this is just a temporary fix to an issue at their end as I shouldn't have to make any permanent changes on my config to cater for issues with Exetel's resources.

I'm having the same issue, since yesterday at least. Some sites won't open at all, some open like frozen mollasses (I have one site still part-loaded from two hours ago), and the rest open in a flash like normal.

Exetel MUST have a technical reason for this - like a bad pipeline/link somewhere or a broken machine in the link path.

C'mon guys, we need answers!

that is interesting because a week or so ago my service dropped out , rebooted modem - log said it was failing somewhere with PPPOE , i simply changed it to PPPOA and it was fine , i never changed it back to pppoe so my MTU would be the default for pppoa which is something like 1454 yeah?
worked fine for 1week+ on pppoa

anyway the sites i was having problems with are ok now at home - smh.com.au and epicgames.com
but i havent tested xbox360-gears2 whick has been playing up also since saturday night

Yes, I can't even get into my university website

http://www.unsw.edu.au/
or the library:
http://info.library.unsw.edu.au/

However, this works for some reason:
https://my.unsw.edu.au/

This is very very bad.

Ok, this is happening again. (at 6:55)
All was good until about 6:45, then all of a sudden all the web pages I was accessing have become unaccessible.
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/
http://www.autosport.com/f1/
http://www.smh.com.au/

Now it looks like the rfactor link loaded after 10 mins or so.

Exetel, what is going on?
