Is there an issue with the Exetel NW tonight?

I usually achieve around 6-8Mbps, tonight on speedtest.net I'm getting 2Mbps and can't even stream video without buffering.
My latency on the same site has been constant at 26ms but is 50+ms tonight too.

From Exetel I'm getting the following.

1.13 Mbps

which means you can download at 144.84 KB/sec. from our servers.

My sync settings are what they are like usually;

DownStream Connection Speed 9604 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 812 kbps

I have isolated, rebooted and tested several computers but still slow.

Happy if it's just a hiccup with the network tonight but don't want it to stay like this.

Cheers.

Test run on 04/09/2009 @ 05:33 PM

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 9 MB
Test Time: 125.77 secs

Your line speed is 601 kbps (0.6 Mbps).
Your download speed is 75 KB/s (0.07 MB/s).

the graph shown on the site says i am not even at adsl levels

I've sent you more info via PM as my speeds are crap again.

915.00kbps

which means you can download at 114.38 KB/sec. from our servers.

It is so erratic and painful as I can't even stream video without it freezing to buffer and the PSN is so slow it's not worth playing online.

Please fix ASAP

Cheers.

Same issue here; currently I'm downloading at 4KB/sec from Rapidshare (usually a good speed is above 100), reflected by the ozspeedtest results:

Code: Select all

Test run on 05/09/2009 @ 10:33 AM

Mirror: Exetel
Data: 3 MB
Test Time: 70.91 secs

Your line speed is 345 kbps (0.35 Mbps).
Your download speed is 43 KB/s (0.04 MB/s).

My current speed on ADSL2 (2 separate tests) 316.8 kbps and 335.5 kbps. Pathetic.

What is the issue here?

And still crap speeds today.
355.80kbps

which means you can download at 44.48 KB/sec. from our servers.

377.90kbps

which means you can download at 47.24 KB/sec. from our servers.

Great speeds for ADSL2+ !!

This is what I am having now:
Test run on 05/09/2009 @ 11:26 AM
Mirror: Exetel
Data: 3 MB
Test Time: 76.62 secs
Your line speed is 320 kbps (0.32 Mbps).
Your download speed is 40 KB/s (0.04 MB/s).

This is what I have during peak times:
Test run on [*03/09/2009*] @ 06:17 PM
Mirror: Exetel
Data: 3 MB
Test Time: 1.98 secs
Your line speed is 12.38 Mbps (12384 kbps).
Your download speed is 1.51 MB/s (1548 KB/s).

It is not just today: it has been going on more or less consistently for some time - offpeak speeds up to 40 times slower than peak. 40 times! Even VOIP does not work properly at such speeds.

Would it be correct to say that most people here are suffering from slow speeds during off-peak, but adequate speed during peak.

If so, I'm not sure there is anything that can be done about that since that is exactly what off-peak is intended for (large volumes of non-time critical traffic). However, I have seen unofficial posts by Exetel alluding to a new method / pricing for provisioning of bandwidth that might alleviate issues like this in the near future.

If not (i.e. if you are getting slow speeds during peak times as well) then you should email residentialsupport@exetel.com.au or log a ticket via https://helpdesk.exetel.com.au to get it looked into.

Definitely during off-peak, but also the hours leading into and out of offpeak.

I do not mind some slowdown during offpeak hours, but 40 times slower than normal speed is a bit too strong - to put it mildly. Sometimes during offpeak hours the speed is so slow, that the connection can not be defined as broadband. Apart from other inconveniences, it defeats the purpose of VOIP - that is supposed to be 24x7. You are a site admin - so is it official Exetel answer that no minimal speed is guaranteed during offpeak hours?

There have been annoying sluggish speeds at this end for the last couple of nights too. Was ok around 3pm but now virtually like dial-up speeds. Same last night too. Took me a few minutes just to get this page up.
