Can anyone successfully watch the USOpen videos?

Post by whoknows » Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:48 pm

I've been trying to watch the videos on http://www.usopen.org - for example the "Press Conference" interviews - and they don't seem to work.
Is there any chance this is some how related to my connection, because it seems very unlikely that the USOpen site would be so broken.

At the moment my browser is trying to connect to 203.215.26.32. It has a connection but is not receiving any data.
traceroute shows:
1 gateway.home (192.168.1.1) 1.195 ms 1.888 ms 2.334 ms
2 * * *
3 10.0.1.33 (10.0.1.33) 54.536 ms 58.588 ms 62.267 ms

Any ideas? Any successes?

Thanks.

I went to the press conferences and watched the Andy Rodick one and it was fine in full screen (along with the commercial before it)

try setting your DNS back to the exetel default and see if that helps.
I have been trying alternate dns myself to try and troubleshoot/work around speed and connectivity issues, but at the moment with the speed issues on ADSL2+ it isn't helping.
You should be being routed to the exetel cache, so I think your DNS is set wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried setting my DNS to forward through exetel's DNS and now it seems to be connecting to some exetel address and not going via iinet. But still no movie is displayed.

Maybe it needs a newer version of flash or something....

I figured out my problem - it was related to DNS.
I had configured my DNS server to redirect certain zones line 'doubleclick.net' to a black hole (because I really don't like ads).
The usopen video player fails to do anything useful if it cannot contact ad.doubleclick.net. So I'll have to take that rule out until the US OPEN is over.

There are a couple of sites starting to appear like that where you get the ads or you won't get the content. If you note the IP address of the content you can often go there directly. Otherwise a user javascript in your browser may do the trick. Opera and Firefox both support this feature (it inserts itself into whatever is being displayed) and you can find scripts online.
