This has been going on for a few days now and have been in contact with help desk throughout. They replied today and pretty much said that they can find no faults on my line and that they do not guarantee good speeds. Not really sure what to do now. Pretty sure that speeds sub 1mbs at night time is unacceptable on an adsl2 connection..

I guess there are two options:

1 - ride it out for a while to see if anything improves - might be local congestion or local backhaul constraints causing congestion, which time based poor performance suggests, and if Telstra ever get around to improving things at the exchange, it might get better ?

2 - if not, try another ISP ?

Depends on how palatable either of these options are to you, I suppose.

Seems to be pretty good tonight!

Your current bandwidth reading is:

4.22 Mbps

which means you can download at 540.18 KB/sec. from our servers.

Its not the 7mbs i get during the day but much better than the sub 1mbs of the last few days.

I have the same speed issues as mentioned above. It is also happening with my AAPT account on a completely different area of Perth. I have had nothing but speed problems with these low budget internet accounts. Just a big headache that I never had with Telstra. Try to save a few bucks but it costs you 20X more in lost productivity.

I'm also in Perth and have noticed my speed slowing dramatically from around 2- 3 pm untill it gets sooo slow my VOIP phone is no longer useable? In the mornng I get great speeds, 4 -5 Mb/s, by the afternoon it's slows to between 1-3 Mp/s and by 6pm It's well below 1 Mb/s all evening. I'm wondering if it's a traffic issue? Surely this can't be right?
