Terrible speed and constant drop outs

Post by shapingsucks » Mon Mar 15, 2010 7:51 pm

My connection seems to be having major issues at the moment, I'm experiencing drop outs every few minutes and my speeds for a 8mbit plan are terrible (250kB/s tops). I've tried to isolate to no avail, how do I proceed to getting it resolved? Cowpastures exchange btw

Cheers

I've been having the same problem today, in Townsville, North QLD. Web will work for a minute or so and then drop out for about 2 minutes. The modem doesn't seem to lose it's DSL link. Weird, and really annoying. Been mucking around with it for ages but nothing makes any difference. Will open a fault ticket I think.

If the DSL light is solid, this fault is probably best described to Exetel as frequent "stalling", not "drop outs". But yes: log a ticket and see what comes from it, though two good diagnostic tests to do would be to see if the stalling is limited to a particular computer (test by connecting a friend's laptop for instance) or if it is hardware related (test by temporarily borrow another modem from someone)

I decided on a gut feeling to ditch with old Dlink brick TPG gave me many many many years and terabytes ago for a nice Billion one. My speeds have gone from [expletive deleted] to a strong 850kB/s in an instant.

I wonder how many people a day complain to ISP's when their hardware is at fault.
