Success - on all four troubled sites I mentioned originally. So I assume all else is OK.

I shall look forward to my monthly bill minus 1 day.

I had success with those sites too, and a few others that I knew were affected.

John can you tell us what the problem was?

Just a minor routing issue for one block of IP's which is why some customers were working and some weren't.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

and finally a reply to my ticket
------------------------------------
I refer to your e-mail.

According to Exetel as of the writing of this e-mail we can see an active live connection from your modem to our network. If you still can't connect I recommend power cycling the modem for 10-15 mins. In addition, please check your local network/computer settings as well as any browser settings since we can see you online.

Well gee thanks , I really apreciate you looking so deeply into the problem. Did you even consider that as I can email you I just may have an "active live connection" to the internet all along and (gee whiz) that may not have been the problem in the first place? Specifically as i said in my post that there were many sites I could see.

There are many jokes about users who have all the lights in the house go off and wonder why the internet doesn't work, but I'm am now thinking about a joke page about non-support staff.

Hello, WA user here.

I've had this same problem start around an hour ago; tracert times out after the first 2 hops for all the sites I've tried so far (Exetel and Whirlpool seem to be the exception for some reason >_> ). International and domestic sites all time out. Resetting the modem hasn't worked; no error messages in the log, connects at normal speeds (7392/384 kbps, on a 8K plan).

Code: Select all

C:\>tracert whirlpool.net.au

Tracing route to whirlpool.net.au [117.53.171.171]

Benedryn - this is going to be a separate problem from the on in Victoria.

Are you able to log into users facilities and check to see whether your account has been 'blocked' for any reason? (ie. excess usage)

The problem's fixed itself now, I think it was just the end of the month rush. Usually my connection seems to cap at ~10 KB/s-ish around this time but it pretty much cut me off so I thought it might've been something else. Ah well, no worries.

I have been having issues for the last few weeks where a page will not load. Simply reconnecting to the router (turn wifi off and then on again) fixes it. I have tried two different routers and both exhibit similar issues. I wonder if there is something which has been changes recently which may cause this?

Are they different brands of modems? Or do you have a separate router and modem, because the modem might be the cause of the issue, not the router.
