My upload goes OK for about 15 minutes then it stalls to zero, with 5 second bursts every couple of minutes. In the graph below, there is a faint vertical dashed line marker every minute...
I also run a radio station of original music (when I am not uploading) and usually it has few dropouts (not perfect but am putting up with it since Exetel is cheap).
FWIW I have an 8192/384 ADSL1 connection.
I can't even count on this 95% crippled connection to finish off the upload because even though data is getting through slowly eventually Youtube gives up. Happens when uploading to Vimeo too. Is this collateral damage from Exetel's "Net Enforcer" filtering/shaping software? And if so can you please tweak it to allow our legitimate uploads?YouTube Uploads Erratic
Re: YouTube Uploads Erratic
My upload to Vimeo is working now. 175Meg.
Perhaps because I chose the "simple" option this time (ie not the flash default).
In which case it is not Exetel's fault after all.
I must try the same in Youtube. if there is such an option that is (there used to be).
Will report here.

Re: YouTube Uploads Erratic
I've been heavily watching Youtube most of this week, and haven't had a downstream buffering problem, so I don't think the Brisbane problems have reached Sydney. Anyway, slightly off-topic, if buffering ever gets bad, use a direct download method. See http://bitbucket.org/rg3/youtube-dl/wiki/Home or http://clive.sourceforge.net/ or http://code.google.com/p/cclive/ (C++ source code only for the last one). You get to keep the file, you can convert it out of Flash to something more compact, or you can rip out the audio to mp3, and you can easily feed it to a decent player, eg VLC or KMplayer (both available on Windows and Linux).
PS You can also just let a browser struggle through, without watching, and retrieve the file from the cache.
PPS Put kiss infront of the URL like this http://kissyoutube.com/watch?v=e8hmnlOEzbQ and press the on page button. (It's one of several file transfer sites)

Re: YouTube Uploads Erratic
Can't test Youtube because its link called "Upload problems? Try without the progress bar." does not work.

(1) It is an upload issue not download.Dazzled wrote:I've been heavily watching Youtube most of this week, and haven't had a downstream buffering problem, so I don't think the Brisbane problems have reached Sydney.
(2) I'm at Lake Macquarie which is between Sydney and Newcastle.
Thanks for the tips. Kissyoutube is interesting in particular to give to friends but I use downloadhelper plugin for FireFox.
Re: YouTube Uploads Erratic
I still do not have this problem with Vimeo (just tried with 500M upload via FireFox v3.5.9) but it is still happening with YouTube. Again the problem seems to be the fancy flash option (which can't be turned off in YouTube). Does look like Exetel are not to blame.
