Speeds worse since moving to telstra ADSL2

Post by CordlezToaster » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:14 pm

Well i upgraded from 8mbit to your new telstra ADSL2.
The only thing that has increased is my uploads. Downloading is heaps slower now between 2mbit to 5mbit when 8mbit adsl i got 6mbit.

Have tried disconnecting modem, resetting modem, the adsl profile is set to automatic. tried adsl2 profile.

Did telstra even try and upgrade my connection?. or did they just send you guys a message saying its done and left me on 8mbit.
If i had of known there was not going to be a speed increase i would of stayed on my old plan and kept my unlimited download.

I just had my 8Mb moved to Telstra ADSL2 today. I'll be very annoyed if my speed goes backwards.

Cordlez, upstream attenuation is usually less than downstream, because the lower frequencies are less affected by hf noise. You may have a noise source there. 48 dB is getting up, it suggests a line about 3.5 km long. Is that so?

Hey Dazzled

Yeah its about 3.5km long according to adsl2exchanges.com.au. A bit disappointing but i should of done my research before plan change. Is it possible im stuck on an 8mbit stability profile at telstras end?

That makes sense.

What are my chances of going back to my old granfathered plan?

You'll have to ask Exetel that question (residentialsupport@exetel.com.au) but I'd say it is pretty low. Although your speeds might be lower, they would be deemed "acceptable" by industry standards
