Question about the new 8192/384 ADSL1 PLANS
Hi Everyone. I am currently applying for upgrading from 1.5m to 8.0m ADSL1 plan. With 1.5m plan, when I watched the online video on my computer(dowload speed around 130kb), my wife can hardly browse the webpage on her computer because the speed is so slow. Of course It is impossible for us to watch the online video on two computers at the same time. If I upgrade to 8.0m plan, can we watch the online video on two computers at the same time? Will the 8.0m ADSL1 plan make a great difference on the speed when two users are accessing the internet at the same time compared to 1.5m ADSL1 plan? Thanks.

Re: Question about the new 8192/384 ADSL1 PLANS
It depends on the bandwidth needs for the videos you watch, which is influenced by the picture size. For example, ABC Iview suggests a minimum of 1100 kbps, so two of these won't go into your 1500 kbps connection. Low definition 360p Youtube isn't as hungry, but 480p is similar to Iview. The faster the line runs, the less likely you are to be bothered by buffering.
Because Youtube is hosted in the USA, it is not uncommon to have buffering whatever the line rate, as the Youtube/internet combination can't always keep up. You can avoid this by downloading the video file separately for later viewing.
1500 kbps is guaranteed by Telstra Wholesale. Actual speed achievable greater than that is dependent on the line downstream attenuation. Your modem line status page lists this for your service. 35 dB or under and you'll be in clover.

Just this month I've had my internet upgraded from 1.5mbps to 8mbps and what a difference it has made! As Dazzled was saying it's entirely dependent on what your sync rate is but if you get a decent one then you should have no worries at all watching videos and browsing the web and playing games, all at the same time.

That is great to hear
I will wait to see the difference as you said.......If we both can use the computers at the same time..then no fight with my wife at all.....
however I still need to wait until 1 Jan to get the plan changed...
