Naked switchover

Post by australiana » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:34 pm

It sounds a bit like a porn title but my interest is purely technical.

I'm on a new OCV200 plan and my PSTN line does not seem to be working yet. However the problem may lie with the handset which has been having a few performance issues lately. Is there any way I can find out out whether the telephone exchange has finished the switchover from naked to normal PSTN?

Plugging a normal corded phone into a naked phone line and lifting the handset you should hear a "fast busy" tone. With a PSTN line, you get the regular dial tone.

I have also switched over from naked to OCV200 and I'm still waiting for my PSTN line. Also in my users facilities it shows my plan as OCV200 but it also notes an off peak period. I didn't think that an off peak period applied to these plans. Also it hasn't updated my contract status which still shows my contract ending last June. I thought I was starting a new 12 month contract. In the Change status section of the user facility it still says my old naked plan is active and the new OCV200 is pending.
Can anyone explain what is happening with these new plans that started today? A PSTN line would be nice since I've now started paying for one.
Thanks

See viewtopic.php?f=284&t=37614&p=287637#p287637 for similar discussion. The glitches in the OCV plans are known and are surely being worked on

It now seems clear that my PSTN line has not yet been connected. Is there an email notification when it is connected or do we have to keep experimenting until it finally just works?

If it is not critical, I'd suggest you keep experimenting for another few days and email residentialsupport@exetel.com.au or log a support ticket if it is still not active by, say, Thursday or so

UPDATE Firstly, thanks to Corey for his feedback. Exetel have now tested the line and it appears that Optus staff have messed-up the switchover from naked to PSTN (how hard could that be?). I have been asked to wait 48 hours for the problem to be fixed.

i thought it was odd today when i test my pstn line for the first time since the new plan (after removing my voip phone) that there was no dial tone. hope it gets fixed soon, using mobile phone in the mean time.

Yes, my family are rapidly using up our mobile credits because of this stuff-up. Optus via Exetel should be offering to refund the calls - almost all would have been free if the line was working properly.

An hour ago I got this email from Exetel:

"Your application has now been released from 'pending' to proceed to activation as our supplier has now either activated your exchange or added more ports to your exchange.

Your application still may not proceed if the current account number that appears on your telephone line rental bill is incorrect.

Your planned cut over date is: 2011-02-02

Your Long Distance and local calls will remain with your current provider until your ADSL and telephone line service is transferred from the Telstra exchange to our supplier's exchange. On the day that your service is cut over, you should experience no more than a few hours of downtime. However, callers who call your number for between 2 and 48 hours after the cut over will receive a message saying that your number is unavailable 'for maintenance'."

This email is confusing and pretty meaningless given that I am an existing customer converting from naked to PSTN and trying to get a line fault fixed.

Why don't you both keep using your VOIP services until your PSTN is activated? I assume your ADSL is still working and you didn't explicitly cancel your free VOIP service you had with Exetel?

Hi Exetel,

Sorry to the OP for hijacking your post, but it is relevant (ish).

I also jumped over to OCV 200 from a Naked plan and I still haven't been issued with a PSTN. Today is day 4 of the new plans being in place and I doubt anything will happen over the weekend - I too am incurring call costs which would otherwise be 'free' under the new plan conditions which I agreed (albeit forcefully by Exetel).

My 'Change Status' page under members' facilities still has my status as 'Pending'.

When will we receive our PSTN? I was initially told back in early January 5-10 days, ie. 20th Jan.

I too have switched over from Naked to the OCV200 plan and have been delighted to find that my sync speed is now at 1 Mbps for downloads, about 1/10th of what it used to be. Fantastic downloading things at a record 100k. This is almost scarely better than dial up speeds.

Not happy

Is the PSTN phone line (whether it goes to an ATA bypass or direct to a handset) filtered? PSTN services need filters. If you have done that advise residentialsupport@exetel.com.au
