Please note that i have advised our supplier to do some changes to your line from there end.

However at this moment your line connection was not in sync - possibility that the modem is turned Off.

Because of that we are unable to check the current SNR. Could you please test your modem in isolation modem i.e by connecting the modem directly to the wall socket using 1-2m cables and then check.
Also please get three speed test results from http://www.exetel.com.au/speed

there has been a bit of a improvement yes tho still well shy of my sync/download speed (17 Mbps/ 1.5 MB's) a couple of months ago.
also i haven't notice any drop-outs over the last 2 days. good progress.

my modulation is G.DMT (displayed in modem as G.dmt.BisPlusAuto).

Could you please kindly perform the below FTP tests and provide us the results.

1. Start Menu > Run : Then type "cmd" and press ENTER
2.
Type ftp usage.request.com.au
3
Username is speedtest
4
Password is testspeed
5
type get 5mb-filetest.bin

Then copy all the informations that was printed and kindly
send it to me.

Please make sure to do those tests in isolation mode.

Also for testing purposes, have you tested with an alternate modem by borrowing from a friend or family?

Note that the modulation G.dmt BisPlusAuto is fine.

Note that you need to do those testing without making any downloads or uploads, i.e close all Internet related applications, torrent/ p2p programs etc... It has been seen that lot of uploads are occurring on your account.

ok

modem is still isolated on less than 2M of cable
there is no traffic on the connection, no browsing, email, streaming, p2p etc.
i have tested another modem (billion 7700N), purchased one yesterday and logged no real difference compared to my old billion 7402VGP. the results are on page 1 of this thread.

carried out dl'ing test file from ftp as requested;

thanks nuranj, i called support.
i was unable to test the landline with a handset whilst on the phone, been awhile since i've had to use one.
attempting to charge up a couple of handsets now tho they were a bit flaky the last time i used them.
if i can just get one to work and listen to the dial-tone, i'll post back.

i've had a fiddle with a couple of different handsets + my fax machine and haven't been able to get a dial tone.
it's possible the 2 handset i've tried aren't functioning correctly and i'm not sure i'm using the fax properly.
can ADSL still work with no dial tone?

Any issues with your telephony service will directly affect the ADSL service. If you hear noise/ or experiencing any sort of issue with the telephony service It's advisable to check with telephony provider for any errors.

However, I believe you have already confirmed us that you are not experiencing any issues with the telephony service.

agreed. i understand that noise on the line, as heard thru a telephone handset will undeniably cause issues on a ADSL connection. however i have not been able to test this at all as i have no working telephone handsets. i've plugged a handset in and if i call from say my mobile, the base station rings, not the handset.

actually i don't believe that i've confirmed one way or another if i was having issues on my phone line. my apologies if that was the assumption. i'd drop down the street and pickup a cheap handset today to test with.

cheers.

i've purchased a new corded handset and was unable to get a dial tone on my phone. not sure what's happening with my phone line.

rang telstra, they've done an isolation test which was 'inconclusive'. the telstra rep advised me they're escalating/sending a tech to inspect the line at the exchange and at the boundary of the property. if they're unable to find a fault, the tech will be inspecting the line inside the house.

the telstra tech will be doing his check tomorrow the 24th june.

i ask that if any inspection of the ADSL service by exetel/telstra technician be postponed until the check tomorrow has been complete.

i'll update when i know more.

cheers.

update:

telstra tech came a day early (from call earlier this morning to telstra) which is something..
anyway received an sms this afternoon advising me the issue has been resolved.
got home not long ago (just after 5pm), checked my billion SNMP viewer, saw that my sync speed had doubled;
EDIT: forgot to mention, my telephone handset now has a dial tone.

DOWN
speed - 10.22 Mbps
outpwr - 0 dBm
S/N Ratio - 12.5 dB
attenuation - 29.5 dB

UP
speed - 512 Kbps
outpwr - 20.3 dBm
S/N Ratio - 16 dB
attenuation - 16.6 dB

then i reset my modem (powered off for 15mins)

DOWN
speed - 15.66 Mbps
outpwr - 0 dBm
S/N Ratio - 10.5 dB
attenuation - 24.5 dB

UP
speed - 512 Kbps
outpwr - 20.3 dBm
S/N Ratio - 29 dB
attenuation - 14 dB

my connection is almost back to normal.

ran a couple of speed tests;

if nuranj / ShaminG or whomever exetel tech monitoring the forum could have a look at my ADSL profile and tweak it as my upstream is still low (512Kbps).

cheers.
