And they reply with THIS from a TEAM LEADER!!!

I am getting packet loss and they want me to do a speed test. 3 times... While downloading a file. I'm lucky to be able to post this.
It won't even run once.

What will more speed tests show that hasn't already been demonstrated in my original post?

----------
Would you please be able to:

1. Run 3 speed test results through http://exetel.com.au/speed , The 3 Speed tests have to be 15 minutes apart from each other , Note the results.

2. Download 3 files simultaneously from

1. http://download.microsoft.com
2. http://www.nvidia.com
3. http://www.apple.com

Please ensure they are running at the same time, and note the speeds after approximately 30 seconds.

Attach the above requested details and reply back to this email for further investigation of your issue.

webgurupc, your ping result might be a problem, but the trace to Telstra is normal - the server there will not reply to Windows. It will respond to a TCP trace sent from a Unix-family machine, and is found at hop 12.

I have come across few TAS cust having similar issues and we have escalated the matter with our wholesale supplier.

Feel free to update this thread, if any 036xxxxxxx (TAS) customer experiencing slow speed/ packet loss.

I'm in Mount Nelson, Tasmania (Just outside Hobart).

Code: Select all

tracert www.exetel.com.au

Tracing route to www.exetel.com.au [220.233.0.9]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
  2 16 ms * 16 ms 201.5.96.58.static.exetel.com.au [58.96.5.201]
  3 * * * Request timed out.
  4 41 ms 41 ms 41 ms 1.2.96.58.static.exetel.com.au [58.96.2.1]
  5 * * 42 ms 182.31.96.58.static.exetel.com.au [58.96.31.182]
  6 41 ms 42 ms 41 ms candlenut-web.exetel.com.au [220.233.0.9]
Trace complete.
Attempting to ping that first routing host, after the local router (which is also the first routing host for webgurupc):

Code: Select all

ping -n 100 201.5.96.58.static.exetel.com.au

Pinging 201.5.96.58.static.exetel.com.au [58.96.5.201] with 32 bytes of data:
....
Ping statistics for 58.96.5.201:
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 80, Lost = 20 (20% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 24ms, Average = 16ms
Has been observed as between 20-32% packet loss since last night, though my partner says iView wouldn't stream yesterday morning (I wasn't around to check). And yes, local area network is fine:

Code: Select all

ping -n 100 192.168.1.1

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
.....
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 0ms
So, yeah, appears as the same problem though I'd accept coincidence at this stage. Anyone else in Tasmania? What's your tracert / ping response on the first non-local host?

Ticket was submitted last night, and been in contact with Exetel many times since (Thanks).
