nearmap.com down for anyone else?

Post by TheJMan » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:49 pm

Can't seem to get at http://www.nearmap.com today

504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn't respond in time.

At least one other Exetel customer from NSW has same issue

Apparently some Exetel customers from other states are NOT having a problem

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/www.nearmap.com says it's down too

anyone in NSW able to break the pattern?

Would you be able to do a continues ping and trace to www.nearmap.com and send the results to residentialsupport@exetel.com.au . Once you receive the ticket number please update in this thread so we will investigate further. :)

ping works for me, so does hping, but there is no browser result. If curl is used to see what happens, we get:

Code: Select all

Are you in NSW?

I forgot to add that ping and traceroute works for me too

Yes. The curl result above shows that the gateway is responding, hence ping etc find it. The error usually means that an upstream server behind the gateway is not responding to the gateway - in other words, the site is down (to that IP).

which is odd because anyone outside of Exetel or outside of NSW is not having a problem (ok small sample but no-one outside NSW has said there's a problem and no-one outside of Exetel either ... no this and WP are not the only places I've asked)

A proxy gets there so it may be ignoring a block of addresses. I used https://proxify.com

nearmp.com is down for me on my exetel connection
Also down on two other exetel connections that I have tested it from.

However it works fine from at least two non exetel connections that I just tried.

Seems like they are blocking a range of addresses. Be interesting how that came about!

pings answer fine, 23ms to 180.233.128.7

The site reponses with a 504 Gateway Time-out, The server didn't respond in time so it is not a problem resolving or getting to the IP.

-kevin, it's as I showed in the posts above - nearmap.com's gateway is up, but the upstream server is ignoring a range of Exetel addresses so the gateway times out. A proxy can access it for the time being. Blocking a whole range when you have a gripe against someone sounds lazy to me, but you'll have to notify them after the holiday; the site administrator is listed at West Perth, (08) 9321 9340

I was just backing up the other people who had posted and supplying the ping / tracert that support had asked for.
Only trying to help, I wasn't saying it was anything different to your posts.
