Connection drops when raining and slow speed

Post by Ivan001 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:31 pm

Dear All,

Last months have dropping connection especially when rainig. Tried "isolation" test - no other devices, the modem connected directly to wall socket same issue. A couple days ago got an other modem (thought may be my modem has issue) but today, when heavier rain started dropping started as well (after 3:30 pm).
Connection speed. I cant tell it is very slow but have never seen faster than 4500 kbps.
If you have any ideas how I can improve my internet connection I will be very happy to try.

Some information.
Usual modem - DLINK DSL-G604T
Temp Modem - NetComm nb5plus4w
Current modem status

Code: Select all

Modem Status
Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 915
Ds Rate (Kbps) 4004
US Margin 8
DS Margin 8
Trained Modulation ADSL_2plus
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 56
US Line Attenuation 38
Peak Cell Rate 2158 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 0
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Interleaved
Speed test

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ivan001,

Welcome to Exetel Forum :) .

I could see heavy dropouts with your connection. Hence, I have configured a more stable line profile so the service would be more stable. Let's monitor the service for the next 24 hours and if the issue is persisting we can move ahead with further investigations.

I'm following up your reported incident via support ticket 5095671.

Thanks Shamin for your reply.
Yes, it is my first post since I am with Exetel (more than 6 years already) :)
I will monitor the connection and let you know.

BTW. I have telstra lid on footpath and water comes from the hole in the lid after heavy rains. May be it is ok if the cables well insulated.

This could very likely be the issue. I will be in contact with later tomorrow to further discuss this :) .

Hmm I get this exact same issue. A brief heavy period of rain will make my connection drop out entirely, but if persistent sometimes it will just increase my latency.. I figured it was to do with a dodgy connection somewhere in a telstra pit..

I have requested one of our Support Engineer's to investigate your issue :)

Hi,
can you kindly ask the support engineer team to have a look at my adsl2 as well? Tried both interleave and ADSL2 profile, nothing helped...
All possible test and resets have been done, yet still very sluggish. And my maximum speed hasn't gone over 150kb/s since last night.

I'm so distressed at the moment, because the speed test results from Exetel and Speedtest.net were both really low:

Your current bandwidth reading is:

1.16 Mbps

which means you can download at 148.09 KB/sec. from our servers.

And it starts since the rain...

Thank you.

I have this problem as well. We've had big lightning storms before, but after the last one everytime it rains the modem log fills up with desync messages and randomly drops out (okay for web browsing but not much else). Problem passes when it stops raining though (happens even when it's just raining, no lightning).

Hi Benedryn,

Can you hear any noises or disturbances in your telephone when this happens?

Don't know, I'll make a note to find out next time it rains.

I too am having these problems for about a week now.

Downloading speeds are very poor same as above. NO, actually much worse. :-( yet I am syncing at about 3500?

Any ideas?
