Hi. Since the end of last week I've been having lower than usual sync speeds. Usually I sync at about 6mbps/800kbps but recently my download sync has been halved and my upload sync hovers at or below 100kbps.

Ugh so I went to do an isolation test and realised my phone currently appears not to have a dialtone. I'm assuming that will be problematic.

So it appears my dialtone has spontaneously returned and my line sync speed is back to normal. I'm not sure how this happened but I guess I won't need a tech to come out anymore. Thanks for the prompt support you guys have provided.

Thank you for keeping us informed. We will cancel the technician appointment. Tests on you line show the connection to be well within specification at present, you can correspond with us for any future issues.

Here's a guess at what happened - ADSL can run with only one conductor, but slowly; the phone on the other hand is dead without its pair. A tech may have been working nearby and temporarily disconnected you and several others. When he reconnected he mixed up yours and another service.
