Hi danielp,

We have made a few changes as thejeg advised and now routers do not obtain 58.96.1.28 anymore so would be somewhat pointless testing it further.

You should try setting your router to 220.233.0.4/3

In approximately 10-15 minutes I'll be changing .3 to the new setup as no one who has used .4 has told of any issues (but has indicated an improvement of services).

Normally we wouldn't do this with so little notice (and at this time) but I'm sure we all agree that having working DNS services over the weekend is a Good Thing[tm].

There may be a little bit of short-lived wibbliness as we swap servers.

As I indicated in my previous post, those who are still having issues should reset their routers and reconfigure for the changes to take effect!

The new servers appear to be going well.

If this continues over the weekend, this'll mean the end of "bind" at Exetel.

Please note that if you are using 58.96.1.28, please stop and follow Theje's instructions.

This server has not, as yet, been dealt with.

What replaces BIND, Andrew?

Currently we've doubled the cores (and have faster ones), quadrupled
the ram and changed software to unbound.

It's the software change that did it. The resource increase can't hurt
but changing software not only solved the problems I was (finally) able
to replicate (that appeared to be in the same class as those reported) but
also brought the load down further (takes half the userspace CPU of bind).

My apologies to one and all that it took as long as it did to fix. Ditching
bind was... not obvious until I could replicate the faults and watch it in
action.

It occurred to me today that I have not noticed any DNS issues over the last couple of weeks. I'm very pleased this has finally been fixed but also very disappointed it took so long, and that Exetel (and fanboys) kept denying there was any issues on their end. I was so close to moving to another provider.

Anyway apology excepted but please do not let this happen again.

We are extremely sorry for the time it took to resolve the issue and would like to thank you for your understanding on this.
