NSW Wollongong - PPPoE dropping semi regular this last week

Post by GateheaD » Tue Jan 27, 2015 8:16 pm

Hello,
Currently stuck on ADSL2 via the Wollongong exchange, copper path is very short and I receive excellent service 99.9% of the time.
In the last few days I have been receiving a number of PPPoE dropouts on my router - Isolation and new hardware all receiving the same thing.
I run Gargoyle on my home router which will automatically reestablish the connection after 30s-2 minutes, same experience on both a stock $20 modem router job from the store and a legacy DDWRT router.
Line SYNC isn't lost at all during this time, just the PPPoE connection.

I know they are doing a fair bit of work in this area with NBN establishments and go lives in this period, just wanted to check if I'm an outlier or this is to be expected in Wollongong for the new few days.

Thanks,
Rohan

NBN work may affect other services, but our supplier has not marked any planned issues in the area. Looking at the dropouts, could you please check the PSTN in isolation and see if the dial tone is clear. Also have you tried the modem in isolation?

So obviously nothing to do with direct construction work which would occur during business hours. As shown in the logs there is quite a big disturbance happening about now.

Best thing is to have the matters investigated separately. Kindly go with the basic troubleshooting and let us know if any further investigation is required.

Symptoms may be similar as you are reporting dropouts. However, please note that the 3 service reported so far in the thread are connected in to 3 different exchanges. Hence, please follow the basic TS and report us if any investigation is required on your individual services.

Tonight's recent drop-outs

27.01.15 22:45:44 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:43:58 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:39:31 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:37:23 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:34:51 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:30:42 Internet connection cleared.
27.01.15 22:28:28 Internet connection cleared.

I cant see earlier as I rebooted my router, but stats show 34 disconnections since 6pm, but only 1 from 6am to 6pm

DSL has been up with no errors since rebooting

Have tested the phone like quality during a heavy black out period (7-9pm) and it sounded fine as far as a phone line goes anyway.
Due to this & the link light being active i'm not sure this is a physical problem.

I'll be away from the area until friday so I wont be able to follow up until then.

Thanks,
Rohan

Let me know how it goes, I'm unable to test anything at the moment as I'm on the road but if it turns out to be a problem from their end I can worry less about whats broken.

They also changed my IP address to completely different subnet range

Will wait and see what happens tonight

6.45pm today myself and other friends on Wollongong exchange UNABLE to authenticate.

Must be some problem as there was over twenty people in queue waiting for tech help!

joined queue at 6.50pm and estimated hold time is still 37 mins, been on phone for 25 mins already!
