Exetel users are "malicious"

Post by jimdigris » Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:24 am

Not my opinion, but of a NRL forum http://www.nrlfix.com/forum/test/cmps_index.php

When I tried to look at this site I got an "IP banned" message, when i enquired to the forum admin as to why my IP is banned because I have never been there before I got this reply from their webmaster:
Most of EXETEL IP range is banned due to malicious users.

Strangely they also ban kiwis :?
All visitors from New Zealand have been GEO-IP blocked from accessing this website.

I think it perhaps shows how little their forum administrators know about networks rather than end users

I prefer rugby to league, so they let me look...... or perhaps it's because I'm not on a 220.233.x.x range.

did you register or just look, I can look also and I'm on that IP range but it might be registration that's a problem

Despite what it says on the home page, I can read the forum threads. Registration is needed to post, but I didn't try it.

I'm only guessing that's when it would be blocked, not somewhere I would want to register at anyway but I can access the site fine though

Prehaps they had a particulary troublesom user from exetel. Keept changing their ip. eneded up blocking most of the ranges.
As an admin in other fourms, I have never seen ip bans as a proper solutuion. If there are people having that much trouble on fourms it's usualy half the admins fault i find.

Kiwi's are banned due to a request from SKY TV ( I think it is), it has been requested by a company, not something that they have done for the sake of it.
As for the exetel user ban, well, I am on there, and post.

Edit : The decision to allow Exetel users access to nrlfix.com has been repealed.
