exeSMS not saving settings and throwing error

Hi - exeSMS is not working on two Windows 7 machines. It throws an error on startup (see attached screencap) and then loses any saved settings.

I can close this window and then when I try to re-enter the Initial setup settings and go to save them this error comes back:

It still appears to save the settings but on closing and re-opening the same initial erorr re-occurs and there are no settings saved again.

I think this is a fairly recent error as I recall it working at New Years.

Any assistance appreciated.

have you tried reinstalling the program at all?

Same problem here on two different XP PC's, worked OK up to yesterday

Windows 7 does not come with msvcr71.dll, you need to download it and install in the windows/system directory.

For the problem on XP machines do the same.

Every single install of ExeSMS1.5 I've done for the last year or more has thrown up that second error; but they always work. The first error I've only ever seen something similar if I try to use it and the modem is not properly connected and is doing the 'replace all pages with info about what's wrong with your connection' trick :)

msvcr71.dll is installed in system folder, seems a bit of a coincidence that the problem arises on different machines in different locations at same time, EXESMS was working fine up to yesterday

I've had this same error today on 3 different machines. They all worked previously but not today. It seems to be a problem with exesms not being able to reach its server at montarotech - its coming back "access denied". So hopefully its something that can be fixed.

It is possible to uses exesms by entering all the data again - just don't close it as nothing gets saved. If you can leave it open it will work, or just use web sms from the exetel user pages.

New version of EXESMS available v2.1 needs to be loaded

Hi, I had the issue described by the OP (and others in this and other threads). There's an explanation here
I uninstalled v1.5 and installed v2.1
On opening it crashes with "Database connection opening error"
Any thoughts?

From reading the other thread gs-pro linked to it seems this is an issue everyone is having in the last few days.

So I expect Exetel will be working hard to find a fix for us all.

Where can I find this version 2.1 of exeSMS you mention?

OK I found the 2.1 download in the members area (must have only gone up recently?). Installed it and updated Java to the latest version but when I try to launch I just get a command line window flash up for half a second then disappear and thats it. I'm using Windows 7 - does this make a difference?

PROBLEM SOLVED! exeSMS 2.1 works fine.

I uninstalled v1.5 before installing it though. I also had a java issue and had to associate javaw.exe with jar files - probably just an issue with my PC though.

OK, I seem to have fixed my problem.
I had originally installed to C:\Program Files instead of the default C:\Exetel.
I noticed from reading the development thread that there is supposed to be an 'Exetel_sms_db' folder, which I didn't have.
Thinking that maybe it was a permissions issue with writing to the Program Files folder, I uninstalled and reinstalled to C:\Exetel.
Now the 'Exetel_sms_db' folder is there and the app works :D
