Will, just wondering if you've managed to find out when Sydney DIDs will again be available for fax to email?
Cheers

Hi Alex,

Still no final date on their availability.
Since we've routed things differently for fax recently, they take longer to order.

Cheers

Thanks Will. What issues would there be in using a (for example) Melbourne number when I'm located in NSW (apart from confusing our friends and relations!)?

Hi Alex,

The main one would be your friends, relatives etc would be charged for a calling a Melbourne number rather than a Sydney number. So if you're based in Sydney, everyone in Sydney would be charged interstate rates.

While you're at it, is there an ETA re: Fax to Email DIDs for Adelaide?

Cheers,
Tony

Do you source your Fax DIDs from the same provider as your VoIP DIDs?
If so why do you only have Capital City Fax DIDs?

And as I can't currently get a Wollongong FAX DID, what would happen if I advertised a Wollongong VoIP DID as my FAX number. Set up a permanent call forward from the Wollongong VoIP DID to a Sydney FAX DID?

If the Fax and VoIP DIDs are from the same provider, would the call forward be a free VoIP to Voip call?
Would the transfer of the Fax info work this way?

This way any people in Wollongong would have a local Fax call using the Wollongong VoIP DID and Sydney people would have a local Fax call using the Sydney Fax DID........... (not sure if I have explained myself very well here.....)

They have been ordered. There is a 15 business day lead time. Should be soon now.

Yes, they only supply capital cities.

Can't see why that wouldn't work but there might be some degradation on the fax such as truncation, especially on multi-page faxes.
The call forward is on net, so should be free.

O.K. Thanks.
When the new Sydney FAX DIDs become available I will test it to see how it works.

O.K. - the Sydney FAX number works if I send a fax directly to it, but the call forwarding mechanism from my VoIP number to the FAX DID does not appear to be working. Should I be able to call forward from a VoIP number to another VoIP number using the Call Forward option in the Modify Your VoIP Service page?

is there something about the DID having to be registered on the Net for the forwarding to work.....or is it something else?

I raised a ticket with the Exetel Support Centre [SAY-39754-818], as I could not get my VoIP DID to forward to any numbers, not the FAX DID or my mobile number.
They cleared a fault and now I can Call Foward to my mobile number, but it appears that they are saying that "it is not possible to forward the call to a Fax number". Even though I can call the FAX number from an Exetel VoIP DID and a FAX machine definitely answers.....

The Helpdesk reports:
Regarding forwarding the call to a FAX DID
------------------------------------------
Since we are using two different servers to map these two types of DIDs (VOIP DID and FAX DID), it wont allow to forward the call to a FAX DID since it is a virtual number.

Oh well I now have a Sydney Fax number even though I am in Wollongong.
