Porting existing number to inbound Fax->Email number

Post by Angusp » Sat Aug 21, 2010 6:04 pm

I sent a message to support asking if this was possible and I was told that it was not, yet there is a few posts on these forums which suggest some people have had their numbers ported in the past.

So I guess i'm looking for a second opinion from someone who may be a bit higher up in the food chain. Is this possible or not?

Porting numbers to a VoIP DID is possible so I don't see how this can't be done as well.

Cheers!

Hi Angusp
It's correct, that is not possible. The service does not allow it.
What we can do is port your PSTN to a VoIP DID and the set a permanent divert to a new Fax to email service.
You can then request provisioning set your fax ID as your published number.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply!
Porting to a VoIP DID and permanently diverting is good enough for me. In fact you should probably just tell people "yes we can port to FoIP" and do that behind the scenes, unless im missing some sort of technical limitation?

Only one real query with it now. Can outgoing faxes (Email2Fax) have our (VoIP DID in this case) number on them?

Edit: I guess thats what this means :)
You can then request provisioning set your fax ID as your published number.

That goes against Exetel's open, honest and transparent principles :)

I would like to port my number also, but Exetel sales says it is not possible and does not respond to a link to this topic. Is there a way forward?

Hi,

As sales has advised, it is not possible. Unfortunately there is no way forward from here.

Cheers
