Why don't we have Perl on the web servers?

Post by AmbroseChapel » Mon Oct 15, 2007 1:54 pm

This might be an old topic or a frequently asked question, but, why can't we use Perl on the web servers?

Whatever scripting trouble you can get into with Perl, surely you can get into the same amount of trouble with PHP?

I don't want to be rude about PHP, but I would always rather use Perl.

It might be on the paid hosting servers, im not sure and will ask Sysadmin to confirm.

Indeed. It's available on the hosting server (which is not free and requires a hostname/domain name of your very own). On the free web server it isn't at present.

Thanks for that.

My question remains though -- why not?

Someone decided, at some time in the past, to allow PHP but not Perl?

Which led to the current server not being set up in a manner that would allow us to allow people to use perl.
