Mirror Changes (28th, 29th 30th March)

Post by James D » Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:14 pm

Hi All,

Exetel will be making some changes to the Mirror this weekend.

The gamershell mirror will be removed, as they are still yet to link us to their site.

This will free up some space on the mirror. We have planned to update all of the current ISO's on the mirror as well as adding many files.

As usual please post all of your request, I will review them and advise if we are able to add the required content to the mirror.

A CentOS repo mirror would be nice (ie. Packages mirrored) - probably too big an ask?

Add Asterisk (asterisk.org) to the asterisk folder.

Move the asteriskathome / trixbox distro out, to a folder of its own, since it isn't actually endorsed by an asterisk developer (or even related to asterisk).

Update the trixbox distro to the later version.
Perhaps consider adding elastix, a better than trixbox offering (remove trixbox in favour of elastix?).

In the antivirus / system maintenance realm, add some of the standard software, like "Avast Anti Virus" - free. "Spybot S&D" - free. "Adaware" - free.

Update MySQL mirror and apache mirror.

That's really it for me, though some of those I probably myself wouldn't use, but could see others that might use, eg. Trixbox / Elastix - I'd drop them if it were my own mirror, but others might use those :).

Oh, forgot to add: PHP.

I am going to move away from the web page based listing, with all of the graphics etc and have a listing of all of the folders in there.

This will allow for much quicker updating.

I have also had a few requests for an FTP as well, I will look into this at the same time.

I will see how much space a full cent OS mirror will take.

All current files should be updated this weekend.

AVG installer files also needs updating.. and by the update speeds I've been getting, I believe you must host a update mirror? or would this be the caching?

I always go straight to /pub, but it's a pity it's so hard to find. I am not sure what James is describing, but a simple file tree is all that is needed - even just an .htaccess style display would do. There are goodies in there that the present link design cannot find.

The aim will be to have one html page and one directory listing page.

There are generators that can take that, and restyle the site.

Take a look at iiNet's web pages for it's FTP as an example, something like that would fit the bill nicely.

Asterisk - is updated.
Trixbox - is updates.

I am having a look at the size required for a full CentOS mirror.

A PHP mirror would be nice because I seem to always be using WGET when PHP updates come out, nice to know the GamersHell mirror is being removed for some more better use of the space

Thank you James D for taking my suggestion here, http://forum.exetel.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=26320

Could These Followings be Mirrored:

http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/fedora/
http://ftp.iinet.net.au/games/
FreeBSD
Gentoo
Nero
Adobe
http://mirror.3fl.net.au/pub/
www.planetmirror.com/pub/

Make a mix of all those mirrors, I am sure the Exetel mirror would make a few decent hits and generate some bandwidth, could we also get some MRTG graphs on the mirror server, just for interest.

We have Gentoo ISO's mirror already

To mirror Fedora they advise that the mirror will need 663GB of HDD Space at the moment, with up to 1TB of HDD space over the coming releases.

The new Ubuntu 8.04 is out in 24 days :) With apt set to Exetel's mirror updates are always at full speed. Will you be mirroring the new version close to the release date? Or will that just happen automatically?

Cheers
