Pictures arent displaying/loading??

Post by ocinoz » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:11 am

As of mid yesterday my JPG's that are hosted with my webspace set up are no longer loading, all i keep getting is the dreaded red X

does anyone know if this is an Exetel problem? or is it just me having problems and i need to look into how to fix it??
they were working fine up until yesterday afternoon so its nothing to do with the move
as far as i know my FTP is working fine as its still letting me upload files
the username for my webspace is ocinoz24
thanks for any help

I get a 403 error - forbidden - on your site. Check your index.html, and check your file permissions.

I checked, picked an image at random and it worked. You'll need to provide more information if there is still an actual problem.

thats worrying for me because im still getting rex X's :?

i dont have an index page, i use the space just to host JPG's and ive never had any problems doing so before
it was working yesterday morning, then started having problems yesterday afternoon, at first they would load as red X's and then show picture would make them display, but now thats not even working

this is an example of one that wont load for me
http://home.exetel.com.au/ocinoz24/beach9.jpg

ive looked at 2 different forums where they are supposed to be displaying and they both wont load, after about 2 or 3 minutes they all end up as red X's. ive also tried just loading the URLs without using html code and i get "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

any advice is greatly appreciated

Works for me... (waves and a palm tree).

I used Opera, on a Linux machine. I downloaded the file, and my image viewers are having no trouble. I suspect you have a Windows problem, rather than website trouble.

If you're trying to view these images from the same connection that you are posting from then you're not even hitting the server. Try pinging home.exetel.com.au and see if you get a response from 220.233.0.59.

My dad said maybe resetting our exetel connection on your end might fix the problem...are you able to do that?

Well you've got internet traffic so I doubt that. Can you, for the moment, remove any firewalls, malware scanners etc and reconnect to the net (giving your modem a power-cycle) before trying again.

I did what you said with both the modem and router and theres no change, it tries to load the picture for a minute or 2 and then goes to the Rex X, or page cannot be displayed (when im looking at the URL and not an embedded picture)

Because the same thing is happening on all the computers on my network, wouldnt it have to be a connection issue?

Have you tried using a different browser (eg Firefox, Opera) ?

Your test picture posted earlier loads fine for me using Windows XP and Firefox.

Hi Gidget

i dont have firefox or opera on my computer, but other computers on the network use firefox and its just showing them the word image, where the pictures should be. so a different browser hasnt made a differece
but i asked on the forums i post on and everyone else can see my pictures fine, its just computers on my network/connection that are getting the same issues as i am.
I really dont know what changed, or why they've stopped loading

Gidget, the OP can successfully ping home.exetel.com.au, but SysAdmin reports that no request is being made to the server when the files are sought from browsers. Since the other machines and other browsers on the network are affected also, I think I would take a hard look at hardware/software firewalls (inc any recently updated malware and adware protection).

When you did this ping, did you ping the IP directly? Or did you try and ping the hostname? Just wondering if it might be a DNS problem. If you did use the IP address, could you try again with the hostname?

Hi Daniel

i did both, the number first, and then the host name

this is the result from hostname

Reply from 220.233.0.59: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=61

My dad said that if he pings the static IP address in the router should he get a response??
