Can't access MySQL through Joomla

Post by Digitalpho3nix » Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:41 pm

Hi Guys,

I am having trouble logging into the MySQL database I have created for my home.exetel.com.au website.

Through the Joomla installation, I get the following error message:
Access denied for user 'fwdbu2415'@'localhost' to database 'fwdbu2415' SQL=CREATE DATABASE `fwdbu2415` CHARACTER SET `utf8`

When I attempt to login to the database through your phpMyAdmin page, I get this error:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'fwdbd2415'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

I am using the right usernames and passwords, but I cannot gain access!

Any insights as to why this might be the case?

Well this is correct. You do not have permissions to create extra databases. It's most likely trying because you got the database name wrong (or that, in addition to this, you got the password wrong).

'fwdbd2415' is your db name not your user name.

In short:

fwdbu2415 is your username
fwdbd2415 is your database name

Hi Andrew

I have got caught by that slight distinction between the two ("u" instead of "d") myself

Is it possible to have a more explicit explanation in the User Facilities - at a quick glance it is very possible to misread what's there and think that the database name and database user are identical.

Because this is already done and there isn't much else we can do about it, you will actually have to live with it. The reason why these 2 are identical is because it would be easy for the user to just copy, paste and edit the 'one' character which is easy to distinguish.

The letter before the numbers is the only character thats changed.

The 'U' in fwdbu2415 is for your Username

&

The 'D' in fwdbd2415 is for your Database name

Hi Shady

I think you have misunderstood my request :D

I am not asking you to change the system that is already in place. All I am asking you to do is add a sentence on to that page of the User Facilities which states something like this:
To access your database via the dedicated phpMyAdmin set up by Exetel, make sure to enter the Database User details (NOT the Database Name details) in the Username field of the Log in box.
Surely that wouldn't be hard to implement, would it? Even though the correct entry might seem obvious, it never hurts to make things explicitly clear (especially since it is the very fact that only one letter changes that makes a mis-entry more possible)
