Does domain name registration include domain name hosting?

Post by netsurfer » Sun Feb 14, 2010 12:03 pm

Hi,

Does domain name registration plan ($36 for 2 years for .com.au) include domain name hosting (dns server stuff) or do I have to pay $20 more for that?

I understand that domain name hosting is different than web-hosting.

Cheers.

Once you have registered a domain name it can be taken any host, so I would think that the domain name hosting is separate.

Cheers,

Mike

Thank for the reply.

To have a domain you must do the appropriate settings in some online DNS server, and that is what is called hosting the domain. Then, what does registration mean? and how it can be taken to any domain?

Cheers.

Registration is an annual/bi-annual fee you pay to a "registrant" to "rent the domain name for 1 or 2 years depending on the rules.

eg for a .com.au the minimum registration period is two years, for a .com it is one year.

It is like renting a PO Box. you pay the fees you get to use the domain/box until you stop paying.

Domains also beed to be hosted, which also costs.

Exetel will register a domain for you as well as host the domain for you, one fee for registration another fee for hosting, if you require email hosting ther will be a further fee.

Look it up in your member facility Manage - Services Hostibg Services.
