John Lintons blog not working?

Post by trk » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:19 am

G'day,

It seems that the CSS and CAPTCHA graphic for johnl.blogs.exetel.com.au arent working?

The blog loses its layout in FF and Opera (yet I can access the .css file refered to in the source), but does appear to display correctly in IE. The CAPTCHA images dont display in any browser (red 'x' in explorer, boxes with alt text in ff and opera) which means you cant add comments.

This is testing from my own Exetel connection, and a remote desktop on iinet.

I can only assume its to do with the authorisation process to read now as in the few months I've been reading it theres never been a problem before.

Did you try using just your number (not anything else) as the username and your members area password?

The main text is readable, if you ignore some style errors (ie, it ain't pretty), and there are far too many coding errors (although some are merely cascades). The reader comments cannot be found - a fresh login is forced instead. eg: <a href="/index.php?/archives/4151-Fibre-To-The-Home.........html#comments">Comments (4)</a>

This new site needs some more work.

Yes I am using my username (02xxxxxxxx) and my members area password but I cannot log in. The page remain the same (I am not redirected to the John's blog).

I can read the comments. Ubuntu/Firefox. Although when there was only one comment there, it was hard to find due to there being no space between the text above and below the comment.

Agreed, Firefox/Ubuntu comments work, albeit with bad style and no CAPTCHA, as trk noted earlier, because (this time) FF makes the intended assumption.

Browsers shouldn't have to assume in the face of coding error. On Gnome/Ubuntu the comments access fails completely in Opera 10 and Epiphany for example. On the K desktop, Konqueror reaches the comments, but with the same style and CAPTCHA misrepresentation as FF.

You can read the comments in all posts (be it ugly plain text with no CSS in FF/Opera), but you cannot make any comment as the CAPTCHA image doesnt display and thus all comments fail the spam check.

The complete lack of comments over the past 2 blog entries should give away the fact somethings broken :D The last user comment was made 2010-04-25 16:25.

I have been advised that all problems have been fixed.

Please let me now if that is not the case.

Sorry, it's not quite fixed. Styling is back, but the comments page is still inaccessible on a range of compliant browsers, some of which are important, like Opera and Konqueror. There are still coding errors.

Edit: Konqueror 4 can be made to work. With the other browsers, the comments link which points to http://johnl.blogs.exetel.com.au/index. ... l#comments causes a redisplay of the login form.

Everything appears to be working for me now, via IE / FF / Opera.

I saved my comment (RE: paid access) to the desktop as a .txt file and its unposted-status been mocking me these past few days
