Greetings,

The Ubuntu mirror for lucid doesn't seem to be updating any more.

Code: Select all

#deb http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid-security universe main multiverse restricted
 #deb http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid-updates universe main multiverse restricted
 #deb http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid-backports universe main multiverse restricted
#deb http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid main universe restricted multiverse
Gives no updates

Code: Select all

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security universe main multiverse restricted
deb http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid main universe restricted multiverse
deb http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid-backports universe main multiverse restricted
deb http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ lucid-updates universe main multiverse restricted
Gives many (about 110)

Can someone have a geeze at it again.

Cheers

Hi
It seems the Exetel Ubuntu mirror is about a month out date for Ubuntu Hardy 8.4

What is Exetel's position on the Ubuntu mirror?
Is it to be maintained in an up to date status?

If you want to check that all is well, you can get a list of the week's updates from the weekly newsletters - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter/ or get the whole lot at http://packages.ubuntu.com/. These sites are not mirrors. Use Synaptic to check the version number code for the packages you have installed (via a mirror) on your machine with the list.

I don't know whether I've missed something, but I've not received Ubuntu updates for some time. It seems to me that everything under the directory at http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/dists/ has not been updated since October 2010. If I change my software source to another mirror there are a lot of updates available.

I don't think you missed anything. It looks broke to me.

I would be surprised if I didn't get an update in a week, and if updates didn't update within two weeks I get a nagios alarm, but then I'm monitoring a different repository.

Andrew needs to fix something.

The Ubuntu mirror under the directory http://mirror.exetel.com.au/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/dists/ seems to have fallen a couple of weeks behind. Could someone have a look please? Thanks.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. It's excellent to have a mirror from which we can download so rapidly.

Can't really agree with "excellent" when I can't use rsync.

Since I can't rsync from the exetel mirror, I probably do 20GB-100GB a month to another mirror that does allow me to use rsync, so I can maintain my own debmirror.

I did the oneiric upgrades last month. It took the mythbuntu box 2 minutes to download the natty->oneiric updates from my local "au.archive.ubuntu.com".

The other problem with the exetel mirror used to be that it didn't maintain the current development dist, ie currently "precise", so I used to need to look elsewhere for that anyway. Not sure if the current mirror including precise reflects a change of policy or not.

Why not use debmirror with http? It's how our mirror gets generated. debmirror
is nicely picky about what files it needs so it's effectively a diff-type
download anyway.

It's maintainment of policy. I try to keep the current live release versions
of ubuntu plus the next upcoming one on the mirror. What happened there is
that the site we were feeding off broke. We've changed that and it should be
updating fine.
