Name Server details

Post by DougFiasco » Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:45 pm

I'm toying with setting the web space offered with my exetel account, and am having no problems getting content up etc..

I have registered a domain (with crazy domains) and need to link this to my webspace.
I've played with free webspace before, but never done much with personal domain names.

Can somebody advise what the details for the Name Servers are for my exetel webspace? (Or if this is not possible)

I've trawled the forums and can't find anything clear around this except a few mentions of using, which I will look into aswell but would rather not set up another account somewhere else (just for forwarding) if I don't have to.

If there's anything else special I need to do to get my domain pointing to my webspace, please include that too.
I'm aware that there is, but don't see how this would point to my space??

If you are talking about the free personal webspace you get with your broadband account, you can't point a domain name to it, as far as I'm aware.

You can only do this with the hosted webspace services

Not sure if it's possible or not, but you may be able to get the DNS registrar (Crazy Domains) to forward the domain to your Exetel free hosting.

Yeah. I don't think you can point a domain name directly to a free personal webspace. You might query Crazy Domains about a "redirection service" that redirect to a specific URL but they may not offer it.

What you can try, is to use You point Crazy Domains to the FreeDNS name servers and you set up a URL redirection via FreeDNS.

Thanks for the replies folk. Yeah, I suspected that it wasn't straight forward.
I've set up an account with just before Corey's post about - I suspect it's a similar thing. but it looks like it will do the job.
I'm just waiting for the nameservers around the planet to update  ... but once I work out how to do it, I'll post the details for other noobs to use.
Doesn't seem too difficult.
