I am considering uploading Webtrees genealogy data base and have a few questions.
I have 200MB of space allocated for Web pages or Blogs does this space also have to accommodate data base use? I am already using 83Mb.
Webtrees system requirements include
45 MB application files + additional data space
MySql ver. 5.0.13 or later
PHP ver. 5.3 preferably or else ver. 5.2
Comments welcome.

Hi, Another question to stevecJ

I have 200MB allocated for web site applications.
I am using about 85MB. Leaving about 115MB free.

Loaded data and applications occupies the used space ie as stored data like a PC hard drive.
When an application is run the memory used to service that application for processing and temporary storage, like PC RAM, is allocated from the 200MB or is it allocated from elsewhere? If allocated from elsewhere what is the allowance?

It's written in php, and so is a server side script, executed by the server in its own RAM.

Normally you can list all the features of a php site by executing a php file containing the phpInfo() command, but in the case of the free server, the report won't complete (it gets through the alphabet up to letter "g").

[ps] php has a few built-in functions to query it's configuration, such as ini_get() or memory_get_usage(). Such calls as ini_get('memory_limit');. I would imagine that any substantial script that is going to use serious space would execute an appropriate query first.

Yes it does do a query but that is after you have set up the data base and uploaded the files. Probably quickest way to find out.
If the query returns an unsatisfactory result you have to delete the files.
There could be a simple script somewhere. My php ref. is 3.3 and that function list out of date. The http://au2.php.net/manual/en/ site is interesting but I am not familiar with the jargon used to explain the functions.
If I find a script I will post on this thread.
Thanks again
