FTP login error

Post by eskyman » Thu Apr 17, 2014 10:01 am

Hi

When I attempt to log in to the web space with ftp (using winscp) I get an error saying "Access without password denied." When I try to log in with internet explorer to ftp://home.exetel.com.au, after I enter my username and password I get "This pages can't be displayed" in IE.

The password and username are correct. What else could be causing this?

When you have a doubt about some aspect of the accessibility of an ftp site, you can check it at low level. Just about every computer comes with an application called ftp (it's file is ftp.exe in Windows). Start it in a terminal or prompt window, typing the part in in bold face:
ftp home.exetel.com.au
Connected to home.exetel.com.au.
220 220.233.0.59 FTP server ready
Name (home.exetel.com.au:xxx): fw_yourname
331 Password required for fw_yourname
Password: yourpassword
230 User fw_yourname logged in
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ls
200 PORT command successful
...... (file listing)
QUIT
221 Goodbye.
