Forum Search Function Needs 'Exact String' Option

Post by allesklar » Wed Apr 28, 2010 1:23 pm

Today I was looking for info on the [Telephone Issues -> Mobile Services] forum, the problem being a broken online form.
I entered as search terms the words [New Mobile Phone Number], and got a result:
--> The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: mobile new number phone.

OK, i can understand that, but the search terms I entered were a direct quote off the online form. I figured I should be able to search for the entire string. So I tried the search term as a double-quoted string ["New Mobile Phone Number"] and a single-quoted string ['New Mobile Phone Number']. Same result:
--> The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: mobile new number phone.

Even the advanced search page doesn't offer an exact string search.

Sounds like a non-issue?
OK well here's a challenge: Search the Mobile Services Forum for posts concerning a web page which asks for user input to select a 'New Mobile Service Number'.
Should be easy...

This forum runs phpBB, which doesn't allow too many configurable options with respect to searching, though there are options that set how short a search term can be (currently 3 letter minimum), and the threshold for "common words" (currently, if they are contained in more than 5% posts, they are deemed "common"). This percentage threshold could stand to be increased I think
