it's possible but prohibitively expensive, I have roaming ability but always use overseas data providers when away, which countries are you wanting to use data in?

I am off to India for 5 days, seems like the intl roaming data rates were okay (no I can't find them), you suggesting I can buy a pre paid sim in India and use it ! hadn't actually thought of that, seems okay

the rates are as charged by Optus, for most countries that means $20 to $30 per megabyte, the charges aren't live though and can follow later on, lots of people have been caught out with roaming data, checking some emails etc and coming home to $1000 roaming bills, not sure what services are available locally but it's worth looking into it first

screw that. Better off just forking out for paid wi-fi services or getting a local SIM.

I've got the superceded M1 - HA plan with voice.
All I want to do is to receive (not even send, just receive) SMS to my australian mobile number attached to this sim card whilst overseas - in countries which I know Optus sims can do global roaming.
I have no need for data roaming.
Is this possible with the HSPA exetel sim? Do I need to pay a deposit to activate global voice roaming? Do I need to contact exetel prior to travel or is voice roaming automatically activated?
Thanks

Can an Exetel rep possibly please provide a more authoritative view on international roaming data charges (GPRS/HSPA) when using the Exetel/Optus data sim in a USB stick suitable for the relevant overseas network?
If precision is not possible, can Exetel advise whether the $20 to $30 per megabyte stated above is an appropriate guide?

I've asked Exetel Voice to respond in the morning.
