I assume this application will replace both exeSMS and exeVOIP?

This afternoon I was expecting a call and so had ExetelMOIP running. When the call didn't arrive, I checked the Nokia (which had gone to "sleep" - screen dark) and found that ExetelMOIP had quietly crashed/closed and I had also lost the internet connection - chicken and egg, I don't know what happened first. There was no warning beep or anything and so I hadn't noticed anything amiss. I restarted ExetelMOIP and the same thing happened a few minutes later. This issue might have been related to the location I was in - perhaps the connection dropped and as a result ExetlMOIP quietly closed. If so, a warning beep would be handy. (I'm now at home and have had ExetelMOIP running for about 15 minutes without a problem - both open and hidden.)

The third time I restarted ExetelMOIP the call came in and I answered it and communicated both ways without issue. Outgoing calls are fine. Occasionally, the outgoing call doesn't connect at all but a redial usually results in a successful call - again, I think this issue is related to where I am when I attempt to make the call.

i notice you are using the N96 with Exetel MoIP, i have a question for you...
when your phone goes to sleep and when you receive an incoming sip call does your N96 crash?
Hi jezza01

Apologies for the delay getting back to you - I've been having landline problems and my mind has been elsewhere

I've now done some experiments and found that Exetel MOIP crashes/closes when an incoming sip call arrives. The N96 itself keeps working. I re-loaded Exetel MOIP and let the phone go to sleep, and again an incoming sip call appeared to crash Exetel MOIP i.e. the person ringing hears normal ringing sounds but as soon as they start Exetel MOIP quietly drops the internet connect and closes.

I hope this helps. (If you want to do some direct testing with me just send me a PM with details)

Cheers

I've installed the MoIP application on my Nokia N95 phone (latest Nokia firmware).

1. When I try to call a PSTN (Telstra) number (9nnnnnnn or 029nnnnnnn), a message comes up as "Forbidden".
2. If I use 6129nnnnnnn, I get a "Not Found" message.
3. I can call a 13nnnn number it connects OK but the voice is broken up.
4. No problems dialing an Exetel VoIP number.

I have had this issue. I emailed support. As far as I could tell all they did was remove my old number masking (could be much more to it than that). Works fine now.

Hi,

I sent my request for this program twice but haven't had a reply so far. Is there any other way that I can get this application?

Thanks

I have submitted the application form three times over the past month or so (the form itself doesn't confirm in a standard way that it even submitted correctly, it simply refreshes and drops the phone model and IMEI entered) and have received no response to any of these.

My assumption is that the application is customised to each customer's IMEI, and that distribution of the application is therefore somewhat restricted. In any case, it would be nice to be able to access offered resources without uninformative online forms and ensuing weeks of silence.

I emailed support (30/01/2010, #2143999) in regards to this issue (as well as problems with missing online SMS records), but apart from receiving a request for my account details (with which to verify my identity) the next day (31/01/2010), I have received no further response to either issue.

Where to from here?

Mark

Is there any support planned for the Android OS?

I already have Fring/SIPdroid for VoIP but there is no sms solution yet.

My guess is that there are enough beta testers out there providing headaches without others. I have been a tester and have returned to the ExeVoip application. I think the ExeMoip app has a long way to go :(

Hi rjedw

I'm interested to know what issues you have experienced with Exetel MoIP (I'm presuming you've already reported them to Exetel). I have found it better than ExeVoip (eg noticeably less lag) so that's why I'm curious.

Knowledge that a limited beta-testing program was in place certainly would have helped, but the link provided on the member's User Page doesn't indicate this at all.

I have now finally received an email reply from support indicating that a new version of the MoIP application should be available this week (and that the SMS history issue I reported has also been fixed).

Thanks for your comments.

Cheers!

I am using a Nokia 6120 which I think is part the problem. All registers OK but when the call is made, the called person cannot hear me and time lags. This has also been the experience of another 5120 user. I'm happy to stay with the Voip app for now. It's great that it works for you! Good luck.

Any news about iPhone MoIP app yet. Using Siphon at the moment and the quality is very hit and miss esp on 3G.

What codec is recommended for SIP VOIP on 3G? Siphon has

G.711 (U-law)
G.711 (A-law)
G.722
G.722.1
GSM
G.729

Know it's not strictly on topic but you people seem to know your topic...

G729 is usually the best for 3G, low bandwidth requirement, good quality

Also under the "Changes and Events" section, announcement today for release of MOIP on Monday

The application is pending signing from Nokia and should be available this Monday.
