Interest in iPad Plans?
Exetel would like to guage what interest there is in prospective data plans for iPads?
We are able to order the micro-sims necessary from Optus very soon and from Vodafone in the next few months.
We are considering something like this data plan structure:
Plan...................Activation.......Monthly...............Included........Excess
Name....................................Access.................Data............per Mb
iPad Casual.............$20.............$5.....................250Mb..........$0.10
iPad2GB.................$20.............$20....................2 GB........... $0.05

[I didn't think it would need to be so high....]

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
You would get 250Mb for $5, then 10c per Mb after that is exceeded.
Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Edit:
I believe there is a vacancy to become the next Dodo should anyone be interested
Having input my opinion, I cannot see a reason why Apple users would not find those options interesting.
Im just glad you said ipad and not wireless

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Why the huge variance in excess data costs from the same supplier? $15-$17.50/GB
excess on other Optus wireless plans and $100 excess on an iPad plan, this doesn't make sense, lets not get on the iWagon, surely data costs are data costs? Or is there some other reason?

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
The casual plan is intended as a low usage plan - only includes 250Mb download. If you analyse other providers (Optus et al) they are billing in increments of 10Mb for iPad data plans. This means even if you just use a 1Kb session they will charge for 10Mb.Why the huge variance in excess data costs from the same supplier? $15-$17.50/GB

If you will use a lot of data, then logically you would go for a higher end plan where the excess is lower.
Yes we have some room to move on the excess charges but nowhere to go on the actual monthly amount. We have to make margin somewhere. It would be commercially irresponsible not to. And yes the wholesale data rate from Voda is not as good as from Optus.
Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Still doesn't explain why some Optus data plans are $0 per month and $15/GB Excess, doesn't seem logical at all really. I thought data was data.

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
There is no margin on those and Exetel can't afford to give data away on plans for devices that are really just "nice to have".
Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
3 Mobile offer a more pallatable deal Post-Paid if you are a city slicker
$15 per month for 1GB + $0.02 per MB ($0.50 roaming)
$29 per month for 3GB + $0.02 per MB ($0.50 roaming)
Come on Exetel you can do better than that! Anything more than $0.02 per MB for data is a major disappointment.
Plan...................Activation.......Monthly...............Included........Excess ---> Example Total inc Excess
Name....................................Access.................Data............per Mb
iPad Casual.............$20.............$5.....................250Mb..........$0.10 ---> 1 GB = $80, 3 GB = $280
iPad2GB.................$20.............$20....................2 GB........... $0.05 ---> 1 GB = $20, 3 GB = $70
The above plans would work a lot better if they were sold as prepaid with a sensible expiry time.

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Thanks for that. We will consider.
Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Why can't we just use your current plan HSPA WI E ?ExetelVoice wrote:Thanks for that. We will consider.
$0 per month monthly access charge and 2 cents per MB
The only downside is the 12months contract ($100)
Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
I would imagine it depends on what the wholesalers wants to charge Exetel - I'd imagine that the HSPA plans are wholesale priced on the intended nature of the plans, and therefore the usage. The wholesalers may see a different story for iPad specific plans, and will probably charge Exetel differently. Fact of life for any reseller, I guess.gong_guy wrote:Why can't we just use your current plan HSPA WI E ?ExetelVoice wrote:Thanks for that. We will consider.

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
I am very interested. But my wireless data usage is irregular. Some months I use more, some months I don't use much at all, it all depends on whether I travel for work. So I wouldn't want a monthly plan that forfeits the unused data or requires ongoing top-up to roll-over data allowance.
I would prefer either:
1. Something like $0.02 per meg pay as you use
2. or a yearly plan like $100 for 10GB or $150 for 15GB, use whenever during the year.

Re: Interest in iPad Plans?
Because the iPad requires a different SIM (or so I am led to believe) I could understand $30/GB excess but $100 is a bit excessive pardon the pun. And saying its because it's a nice thing to have is just no excuse IMO. My Nokia is a nice thing to have IMO. In 2 years time iPad will be a has been. Again it doesn't matter what device is at the end of the string it's still just data being supplied by the same wholesaler to a different device than the normgong_guy wrote:Why can't we just use your current plan HSPA WI E ?ExetelVoice wrote:Thanks for that. A meat cleaver is all you need to convert a regular SIM to a "micro-SIM" - http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl ... 05/1840258Old Flame wrote:Because the iPad requires a different SIM (or so I am led to believe)
