what phones are good for MOIP

Post by granny1 » Tue Dec 07, 2010 6:18 pm

Hi,
I currently have a Nokia N73 running MOIP ...no problems just small screen is difficult for me to see.
I would like to get a new touch screen phone and would appreciate any info on good phones that are running MOIP successfully.
Thank you
Regards granny

Some Nokia's are fine for VoIP but may fall down in other areas such as internet on the go, for me personally I find it very hard to go past an iPhone, I have an HTC as well but it falls short in comparison (my opinion anyway)

Hi Jokiin,
Thank you for replying.
I only want it for calls not internet .... I will use my laptop...
I have been looking at the Nokia 5230 as I do want the touch screen.
Do you think exetel moip will run on this one?

unsure about the Nokia but if you login to your user facilities from memory if you go to download the Symbian VoIP app it will prompt you for which model you have and you can see if the 5230 is listed

suggest trying one of possible first though as a lot of touch screen phones on the market are not great (even from quality brands like Nokia), make sure you're comfortable with using it

I used to have a small netbook that I used for internet on the go but since I went iPhone I honestly haven't used it and it now sits collecting dust

Hi Jokiin,
Thank you, yes I have been trying out a touchscreen and I find that it suits me fine ....Lol.... I can see the screen and read the messages just fine.
All I have to do now is find one that is suitable for the MOIP.
As to your suggestion re: the moip download page, I am currently working my way through the listed phones to find out which one is a touchscreen, I am not there yet...
Regards Sue

it uses a resistive touchscreen so try and get to use it if possible to make sure you're ok with it

Hi Jokiin,
Sorry I wasn't being rude, ..... have been interstate just arrived back home.
Anyway that's a good point I will need to try one, but it seems that all the stores I have approached no longer have them in stock as they reckon they are phased out now.
I really don't want to purchase sight unseen if I can help it.
My trip really proved the point that I need a touch screen to see what I am doing ....lol..
Bigger buttons are of no use if I can't decipher the text.
Anyway thank you again for your help and advice.
Regards Granny

yeah I would certainly avoid that, the quality of touchscreens vary widely, the resistive type in particular aren't a great user experience in many cases

Hi Jokiin,
Sorry for not answering your reply.....
But on your advice I went shopping around for a phone with the easy touch screen .... I ended up buying an LG Optimus one which I had massive problems getting set up with the exetel moip But, with the help from that wonderful member Baldrick who by the way, must have the patience of Job I got it up and running.
It is a great phone I can see everything, hubby reckons it hates him as he seems to have problems using it but, I told him that's ok as it is mine all mine.
Anyway wishing you a Happy new year and thank you for all the assistance you have given me over the last year
Regards Granny :)
