100mb/40mb slower than copper
100mb/40mb slower than copper
We received our fibre connection 3 days ago and at first it seemed to work fine, though not faster than the copper connection used before.
Yesterday I eventually did numerous speed tests, directly through the online exetel speed test service as well as through speedtest.net
and the results are simply upsetting.
Our 100/40 connection is actually slower than our previous ADSL2+
Results can be seen here.
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2879607883
Not only is the download speed of around 12mbps extremely slow (previous copper was at around 19mbps), the upload is virtually non-existent with 0.19mbps.
Help would be appreciated...

Re: 100mb/40mb slower than copper
thanks for your reply but tbo the list you told me to do was too time consuming, so I never did it as I don't have that much time atm. the problem of slow speeds remained.
That being said it's got to the point now that my internet doesn't even work, (well it half works) I can load exetel's website that's about it.
There is no point sending me an email as I can't log onto it as it doesn't load anymore.
most web site don't work and just time out...
again don't email me as I can't load it.

Re: 100mb/40mb slower than copper
Have you tried connecting a computer directly to the fiber device, creating a PPPoE connection through the computer to connect to the internet and try? If you are able to get this working, it would mean that a setting needs checking on your router.TijN wrote:thanks for your reply but tbo the list you told me to do was too time consuming, so I never did it as I don't have that much time atm. the problem of slow speeds remained.

Please try this and advise.
Re: 100mb/40mb slower than copper
thanks for your reply I rang support tonight to get my connection password and tried a PPPoE direct connection with my computer. connected, but exactly the same problem as I have with my router.
some sites work and others don't.
so I am guessing its not my end then. please advise.

Re: 100mb/40mb slower than copper
ok it is better, what did you do? change the IP address, anything else?
I will test it over the net week or so and let you know.

The IP address change was the only thing done and the address you had was not in the range that you should be in, so it should be all right now
