Hi all,
I am presently on ADSL2+ and 1.4Km to the exchange which yields a modem (possible) throughput of 22Mbs sec, I got 14MBs sec the other evening on a speedtest to exetel. And I pay about $45 a mth with the phone bundled.
Video Streaming services like iView and SBS OnDemand fail after 7pm, buffering is every 10secs, just unwatchable. Some services just don't connect.
SBS OnDemand is a 30 hop affair and once out of the exchange the delays start .
NBN to the door is attached to the property (Townsville) and come December the copper will be turned off.
What is it 25/5 service is about $70mth, $25 more.
But its the same backbone, the delays and buffering will be the same, whats the point in using NBN if the network is slow???
Connecting to a service will still fail because of my distance delay, those closer will get served, because their ping returns are faster than mine.
So I am thinking about moving, moving where there is no NBN or it won't come online for a couple more years. I think a standard ADSL service of 8MB will suffice if the backbone is flakey.
Is NBN an upgrade?
